I was really surprised at the measly 20p of coppers rule! No one has ever refused to accept a 'reasonable' amount of copper coinage from me before. I wouldn't want to hold up a queue of people paying with 'loads' of loose change though, I only really attempt to empty my purse of loose change when tills aren't busy.0 -
Thats ok unless you take into my bank who now moan and say you are only allowed to give them between 2 & 3 bag's maximum.
I had a jar full of pennies once and counted them all out which took me an eternity to do and had a a parking ticket from the council so out of my annoyance decided to take the money to them.
The lady at the Councils office was not amused but did take it and spent an age counting out the money, as the saying goes revenge is a dish best served cold. :rotfl::rotfl:
I once saw someone do this many years ago in the british gas shop to pay his bill. He just spilled the contents of a plastic bag onto the counter.
The cashier was not best pleased, but I had to smile0 -
I'm not quite sure why it was the cashiers fault that you parked illegally and thus got yourself a fine!!
We keep ours in a demijohn -last time we cashed up we had enough for a new fridge - it took a looooong time to count!
It was not the cashiers fault granted, merely the fact that the Council had decided to slap a ticket on my car, that I had parked in the same spot for a number of years without any issues, some jobs worth comes along and wants to build up there daily target so I decided to do annoy the Council as much as they had annoyed me,0 -
last year i counted out my coin jar and there was £39 over a month i put this all in the self serve til, i did tend to go when it was quiet tho as i wouldn't want to hold people up, i now put all my change in the self serve til so it doesn't build up, i have a small tin with about £30 on poundcoins in that i have so i'm not running about looking for change for the kids school but if need be i can dip into it and i have been known to send hubby to the chinese with £15 in poundcoins because theres no other cash in the houseDEC GC £463.67/£450

I keep a money bag of 1p's and one of 2p's in my bag all the time to use in the self service tills. If I have got DD2 with me, I have been known to let her feed the tills with several pounds worth of change, she thinks it is a great game (but only when it was quiet in there).
I think the highest I have paid using change, was around £22, but that did include some silver of 50p and lower.

Just had a quick google and found this
- You can only pay for 20p worth of goods with pennies or tuppences
- You can only pay for £5 worth of goods with 5ps or 10ps
- You can only pay for £10 worth of goods with 20ps or 50ps
- £1 and £2 coins can be used for any level of transaction.
Having read the article, I would like to know who's rules are quoted in the article over how much change you can use.
Is it a Banks, the Bank of England, the local supermarket, the person who wrote the article etc ~~ it is not clear and may be misleading.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

I always use up coppers at the self-service till, ive never heard of the mint guidelines before or been refused on the basis of them, bit odd that it includes crowns and half crowns0

I paid for the food for my wedding reception at my local Tesco & they took £169 in small change without a quibble, but I did ask first as I know they aren't obliged to accept it.

All our coppers go in a large sweetie jar and once per year we lug it down to the cat rescue. They don't seem to have any problem at all accepting any amount of loose change.Val.0
