Sainsbury's

I want to praise the company, I have noticed recently that the "once" expensive supermarket has now became one of the most competitive. Today when I was in store they are now running an offer where you can have four main meal deals i.e Indian/ Chinese curries & pizza's & 2 side orders which can be a starter and a dessert if you want.

This works out at £10 exactly.

The food in Sainsburys seems much better than its competitors and I would like to praise the fact it provides good value and quality foods.

P.S I get fed up of hearing negative stories about companys I thought id share a good experiance.

And funnily enough the latest results from The Grocer 33 for the 20th September show that Sainsbury's was indeed the cheapest supermarket that week.

  • I have to TOTALLY disagree. I wish they were competitive as their product does tend to be better than Tesco/Asda.

Fed up with Asda I tried Sainsbury's YESTERDAY but my weekly shop cost me £20 more there! Over 52 weeks that would be a hideous amount of money to flush away.

What made the experience worse was that they have recently spent a fortune revamping my local store yet only 6 of 30 checkouts were open and the shelves had missing stock everywhere.

Until they can deal with the three ghosts that haunt them (price, checkouts and stocking shelves) they don't have a cat in hells chance of catching the competition.

    I agree entirely.
  • Sainsburys is great, but keep it quiet. Whilst my local Tescos has no more than elbow room, even on a Saturday Sainsburys is nice and peacful by comparison, and their special offers are pretty good too.

Here in NI Sainsburys are trialling a new price match system (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/46984373#Comment_46984373) - if your items are cheaper in Tesco/Asda they print out a money-off coupon for use the next time you shop in Sainsburys. I was sceptical when I read about it, but the last couple of times I've shopped there they have actually given me these coupons. They're only valid for a week or two, and obviously require you to shop at Sainsburys again to use the voucher, but as Tesco say ... "every little helps".

I'm stunned they're trialling this in NI - we're usually the last people to get new money-saving schemes from the big supermarkets.

I've found that it works out cheaper in the long run to buy sainsburys' premium stuff.

I know you're going to find this crazy, but I decided to do a like for like shop online with tesco & sainsburys (I never go into the shops).

With my list, I completed all items and bought the cheapest own brand versions of food, and the quantities I needed.

With Tesco, I did the same. Choice was very limited and I had to buy different types of items or just go without in some cases. Tesco was the cheapest by about £20, but likeI said, I was missing a few items or hadn't bought what I actually wanted.

I had a look at sainsburys offers, and was surprised to find that in many cases, while, say, the super cheapo beef burgers were £3 for a pack of 8 (where you needed 4 per person because of how they shrivel up) you could get two packs of really nice quality burgers for £5.

With doing that, buying the better quality items which are perpetually on offer (whereas cheapy ones arent), I was able to take it to the point that it was £10 more than tesco, and yet I had nearly a week's worth of extra food in my order.

I agree completely with you. All three ghosts were acknowledged by Sainsbury years ago and yet progress has been slow.

sounds like either the store opened to early without the stock on the shelves or just not enough staff to put the stock out.

That's interesting, I've just gone back to Sainsburys' after around 6 months with Tesco and my shop is £20-£30 a week cheaper at Sainsbury's. Perhaps it's an individual area thing.

The quality of food I have been buying at Sainsbury's has also been far superior to Tesco.

I have to sing Sainsburys praises too.

I shop there as they are convienent local to my work. Although they tend to be more expensive than others for some things they always seem to have good offers on. I always tend to get discounted meat and save a fortune while stocking up my freezer. There fish tends to be quite cheap as well and I find their own brnads are better quality than tescos.
