Installing new broadband

I want to get broadband for my home however there is no phone line at my address. I use the internet mainly to check email, surfing web, downloading some music, sometimes streaming youtube, iplayer etc. Given that I live in a flat how expensive would it be to install a new phone line with a provider. If the installation of a new landline pushes the total cost of a phone line broadband up, would it be cheaper choosing fibre optic broadband?
Any advice much appreciated.

BT Will install a new line with a broadband order free
Line only is from £30-£130 dependent on length of contract,Other providers ADSL24 or Vivaciti around £80,IDnet £112.
Is Fibre Optic available to you?
Unless Virgin Media Fibre then a phone line is still required(at the moment)0 -

Thanks steveE2. I was thinking of getting Plusnet Value broadband (+ their line rental). Do you know how much Plusnet charge to install a new phone line? As far as I know the previous occupant had cable TV installed, so I am assuming I live in a Virgin fire optic area (?).0 -
Virgin Media do not provide Fibre to the door - don't fall for this marketing nonsense. You get copper, just like everyone else. You will probably be hit with a 12 or 18 month minimum term, so if this is a problem, a Dongle might be a sensible solution.0

5. If you need a new phone line installing at your property, there is a £49.99 installation charge.
6. The offer is only available to new customers who place their order between 23rd August 2011 and 5th October 2011.
can be found under Offer terms and Conditions.0 -

Yup,Unlike BT Infinity,VM is Fibre to the Mux/DA...NOT the cabinet, which can be up to 1/2 mile away from your home.(But the signal is boosted at the street cabinet to compensate for any signal loss)0
