Who do coalmen buy their coal off?

Just wondering this - do they all import, and what per bag would they pay before resale at 25 or 50 kg a bag?

Yes, but if you track down a local coal merchant, some of them are still offering their summer discounted prices. Mine was, but only for a few days more, so I nipped-in and bought 15 bags.

Painful, but not as bad as waiting a few weeks and paying £2 a bag more, or whatever the increase will be!

Evening Mr B, I did cost from my local merchant, same one I used xmas time last year, fair hike I have to say, I have suffice wood to see me through this up and coming season, plus mains gas, better throwing the pennies at gas supplier in this case.

    Regards.
  • I heard merchants buy from Hargreaves or CPL. Small load 10 tonnes up to 20 odd on a lorry.
Heavy users like steam railways will buy loads of coal like this and get a good price.
