We never open the windows in the winter and very rarely in the summer. Never found any adverse effects either.

    bet your house smells nice

To be fair some people keep their backdoor and all the other doors in their house open.

Though I wouldn't personally do that as if you are lucky a cat would come in but if you are lucky it would be a squirrel or a fox.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Actually, I could do without your sweeping generalisations as to how my house might or might not smell.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I once heard Kim and Aggie say thay your bathroom window should always be open unless there was a Siberian gale going on outside!
I always have the bathroom and separate toilet windows 'locked open' Then other windows as required. Bedrooms in the morning until I decide that it's cold later in the day etc. I suppose when I think about it the kitchen window is usually open and the living room, and the landing, so really most of them unless I'm going out or cold!

I hate houses that smell stale, and if there is no fresh air getting in then the air is stale and smelly there's no getting away from it.. as someone else said you don't notice it yourself because you live with it . No amount of 'smellies' to mask it will disguise an unaired atmosphere.

  • i sometimes open the windows to pass wind but it depends on what I have been eating to be honest
As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.

I do that as soon as I get up I open every window in the house and open the back door wide.
They don't get closed till dusk, unless it rains then the door gets shut obviously.
I just love the fresh air.
  • Most of our windows are open on 'night lock' all the time. DS has his opened wide all year round. Our bathroom would go black with mold if the window didn't let a little air in.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • I rarely close any of the upstairs windows in my home. That said it is the wee top windows that are open. Downstairs windows/doors are opened and closed as needed.

i leave the bathroom windows open a tiny bit all the time as they can be locked about 1cm open, I also do this during the day winter and summer while we are out, in the winter I close the bedroom windows when I get in from work so it is not too cold when I go to bed, OH whinges as he likes window open all year round

I open the back door to air the utility room in the morning for about 20 mins if it is freezing otherwise open when I am in the house as the dog bed is here, kitchen window and patio doors opened to air house depending on weather, if it is freezing kitchen window only open when I am cooking and clearing up to get rid of cooking smells
