Leaving window closed throughout winter months?

Does anyone do this? or is it better to constantly open and close to let fresh air in?
I always leave the window very slightly open in the upstairs bedroom because its better for air to flow in and out but im thinking now its starting to get colder i might as well leave it closed all the time as well as using the central heating.
It kinda makes sense to leave it closed when having heating on but is it ok to leave it closed all the time through winter? just to mention the windows do get opened in other parts of the house at different times.

Personally I would open windows if its a nice day to let air circulate ifs is not so nice but not overall cold I leave windows open slightly not in every room and only shut them if its bitterly cold0

We never open the windows in the winter and very rarely in the summer. Never found any adverse effects either.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I have bedroom windows open if I'm in the house come winter or summer, in the winter I open them for a couple of hours to air the room as I find the bedrooms smell stale if I don't . In the summer the windows are always open if I'm home I only close them if I have to go out..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

When passing wind it is a choice matter otherwise leave them shut.
(unless you have a bathroom or kitchen with no extraction then open them full for a few minutes else everything will go moldy)Not Again0 -
The only problem with open windows at this time of year is all the huge spiders sneaking in for a bit of warmth........They make a mistake in coming to my house though as I think its warmer outside than inMy opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked, and it's price competitive. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.0

Growing up, we never opened windows except on very hot days in the summer. It never smelt stale but then we didn't have any pets and the house was kept very clean. The front and back doors were obviously opened regularly so I'm sure air could circulate then. The only problem area was the bathrooms - lots of mould, so I'd recommend routinely opening the window here after a shower even if you have an extractor fan. Otherwise, don't worry. It seems a bit silly to spend a fortune insulating and draft-proofing your home only to let a constant giant draft in through the windows.0

even in winter i will still occasionally leave a few windows open just to get some fresh air into the house
ususally the windows are open when im at work and the heating is off0 -
Ours are permanetly locked open on the trickle position upstairs and also in downstairs shower room and kitchen. Sometimes when its really cold they will get closed overnight completely0

Depends if your windows are draughty or not. If old wooden single glazed windows and draughty then I would not.
If double glazed and modern then 30 mins in morning is sufficient.0 -
Im really surprised at how many of you dont have open windows and you say that your rooms dont smell, trouble is you cant smell your own home but someone else walks in they can, doesnt matter how cold your bedrooms are as long as you have a warm bed to sleep in, my windows are open 24/7 you cant beat a bit of fresh air, we all need to air our beds before making them up, all that stale breath etc phew ive gone all funny:eek:.............0
