BT Openzone access

I have BT Total Broadband at home and this contract includes 1gb of free access to BT Openzone.
Having bought a new phone recently, I have set up Openzone as a wi fi option on this phone hoping to use some of this free access.
When I use the wi fi option on the phone I log into Openzone using my bt details and I get the openzone screen up showing 'Launch Browser' and 'Disconnect'.
Choosing 'Launch Browser' takes me to a BT Fon page. Right still with me ?
I then close this BT Fon page and access the internet through the phones internet option on the main screen on the phone.
Am I right in thinking I am now using my free 1gb Bt Broadband or am I using up my data usage included in my phone's contract and how can I tell what I am using up ?

as long as you have logged in from the BT Fon page then you should be using BT Openzone / BT Fon, you can see which wireless network you are currently connected to on your phone through your settings page? mine is settings then wireless and networks where i can see what wifi i am curently connected to.

Which handset do you have? Often it is better to add the BTFON app which is available for Android and iOS, if you have a symbian add handywi, all allow easy access to BTFON/Openzone.

On my galaxy S2 I browse straight from the BT Fon page, but even if I come off that it stays on that page so Im still connecting through wi-fi if you see what I mean? Mine also shows a symbol on the front screen to show im connected to wi-fi.

If you've connected via wi-fi you'll be using the BT Openzone allowance.

As previously stated theres a Fon app, that you can get ( not the BT one) that will automatically log you into fon spot when your in range.

Although im not with BT broadband, i have a La Fonera fon spot router, and the fon app woks a treat, both in the UK, and abroad.
The only downside to it is that since BT got involved in the UK, you no longer get payments from Fon.

i had the same problem trying to access openzone, after long chat with helpful bt guy he suggested an app to bypass the openzone login page. i got CoovaAX app free from the market & signed in with openzone details & IT WORKS.
now i can use my account on the s2. hope that helps someone else too
