SKYPE - can't hear me...

I've had the same problems with the audio, and the ONLY way I found to resolve this problem was to go back to version 4.2.0.169, which you can get here:-

Over time, I've tried various updated versions, and have ALWAYS run into problems, so I'm staying with my current (old) version, as I became sick of installing and uninstalling various versions!!! Possibly not as safe as the latest version, but hey, if that version dosen't work, then it's no use anyway!!!

I think i'm gonna have to try that... i've uninstall skype and reinstall with latest version. I've done the same with my audio driver (Realtek high def audio) and now got the latest version... still the same prob.. when i try to sound recorder it doesn't work and same for skype.. the speakers work fine etc... it's starting to worry me...

and yes i have the option of plugging a headset/mic but unfortunately i don't have one... i do hope the built in mic is not broken! i might to get a headset just to check!!! grrrrr

It may be worth checking your installed sound and audio devices. If your microphone is showing up there, conduct some sound tests (The standard windows sound tests), if you can't hear anything i'd probably say your microphone is possible broken (assuming any drivers that might be required are up to date). If you can hear something when you do this test, make sure you have the correct audio device selected in the Skype options.

I know I am going off subject a bit but I had been having loads of problems with Skype, but I bought a decent Logitech webcam and with came "Logitech Vid" their own VOIP service and it works a treat, the only problem it's logitech to logitech meaning other people must also have a logitech webcam as well.

have you gone into skype sound settings and made sure that in the drop down box for mics your mic is selected because sometimes my skype likes to play these games.

Could be something silly like a second recording device has taken precedence - somewhere buried deep inside the options will be a drop-down to choose the microphone/recording device. If there is more than one choice, choose the other one, see if it comes back!

I bought a headset to try out in case my internal mic was broken but no luck with that either - very frustrating. I have reinstalled to an older version that I knew had worked but still no luck - might have to try that older version mentioned above

Please check the audio devices/microphones settings in both Skype and Windows Control panel first, it is very likely to be this. It will be hidden away and not obvious, but a miracle cure if it is this problem, which even reinstalling a previous version would not fix.
