I am waiting for him to call me back apparently two of the injectors were stuck in and had to be soaked for three days and eventually drilled out.

I am totally out of my depth.

He is supposed to call me tonight as he is going to see how he can drill the bill down (his word) and what he can take off for cash.

I am on my way to see him now the car is a Fiat Ulysse 2.0 diesel 05 reg.

The car just died whilst driving.

Will post information when I get back

It wasn't a cam belt failure that caused the damage, was it? What mileage had the vehicle done? Premature cam belt failure is a very common fault at around 50k miles in 2.0HDi engine (pre October 2006).

The failure causes the injectors to become seized and they have to be bashed out (if they can - it's often completely fatal to the engine).

I've had this problem with my Citroen C8 recently, and had a new engine put in at Citroen's expense.

  • Tell him it's too expensive and not to go ahead with the work; then ask for a price on what you owe him for the diagnosis.

A bit hard to do when the OP has been in touch with them every few days.

And the diagnostic bill could end up being most of that £2k. I know if someone tried that on with me after phoning me every couple of days and me forking out for a skim and head gaskets I'd take the top end of the engine back to bits and put them in the boot telling them there was a £25 per day storage charge until they got it towed away.

aye, but the aim is just for the garage to realise that they've almost quadrupled the price without giving the customer any indication of how high it's going... and then hopefully they might be able to come to an agreement.

That sounds a good deal. Tow it away the next day, and give you £25 for your trouble.
If they quoted £650, that's what you'd be getting off me.
