Garage rip off
Hi can anyone give me advice please.
my car broke down and I was informed that it would cost between £500-£600 for it to be repaired when I phoned for the price so I could go and collect it he now informs me it has cost £2308.
What can I do?
I don't have this money, I would never have agreed to spending that much on a car only worth between £3000 and £3500

Ask for a breakdown of the cost.
But if the initial figure was an 'estimate' and not a 'quote' and you did not ask them to call you to authorise any larger spends on the car, there might not be much you can do.0 -

I have spoken to them every two or three days and the only point he mentioned it would go up was when he informed me that the head needed to be re-skimmed and that alone cost £250 so he said it may go up a little so I was expecting about £850 top wack. I am going to see him today and will ask for a breakdown of everything.Debt free by end of 2014

Ask him to break the bill down in to parts, tasks and labour charges for each.
If he can not, ask him how he has arrived at this bill, which is twice the cost of a replacement engine...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Does he wear Stetsons and a ten-gallon hat?
Please let us know the outcome and name and shame if appropriate so others aren't so unfortunate!

Dont forget, that bill needs to be itemised.
Tasks, A list of tasks carried out and amount of labour charged for each
Parts : list of parts supplied
Tell him The AA or someone else have asked for the information:eek:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
