Parking Permit- proof of insurance!?

I just thought I'd let you all know that I had absolutely no joy today!
I was told that it is part of the university statute that all drivers are required to have insurance, MOT and license on campus - this is the first year they are attempting to actually police it though. I did point it that it should really be the job of the police, but the security supervisor didn't take too kindly to that!
Seems a bit OTT. Sure, for employers, they need to check these things these days if their employees are driving on company business, but there is no such relationship between you and the Uni.I then found out that not only do they want to see the originals, they actually want to keep them for a few days! That to me is completely ludicrous! Needless to say I queried it, and he pretty much said "them's the rules...."
To which you can say either b****r your rules, or, more politely that your own rules are that a bond of £1000 will be required from them as security against your valuable personal documents. You should also demand to see copies of their procedures on how they will keep your documents safe while in their hands. That should confound them a little.0 -
On the basis of my research I have reason to believe that the Uni security staff actually issue the tickets and that CPP provide the back-office support i.e. chasing payments/non-payments etc/debt collecting (usually through Newlyn or our old friends Roxburghe) and ongoing advice etc.trisontana wrote: »While the Uni might pretend to be acting as their own PPC, that may not be the case. The Universities of York, Nothumbria (and I think Bradford) all do this, but if you dig deeper you will see that the paperwork has a Northampton address and phone number which actually belongs to a PPC called Car Parking PartnershipMy very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

I would think the Drivers license, MOT and insurance are for their peace of mind. They know you can drive and are insured if anything untoward happens whilst your car is on site.
The home insurance may be an incentive from a third party where a company will pay the UNI a small sum for each house insurance policy they sell.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Yus and I suppose it would not be a ploy by the PPC to try and identify a driver of course!;)
Insurance doc would give details of insured drivers! Of course anybody could drive on DOC but that would not stop a PPC saying well it was you or the named drivers driving!
They are of course allowed to make up as many rules as they like for anybody who wishes to park on their land, but I cant see any reason they need to see any documents at all!0 -
It could well be a "ploy" however i expect a less sincere motive seeing as its to obtain a permit. In theory they would not need to care who the driver is seeing as they would have a permit :PHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. HE HE :rotfl:
What about all the little contraventions they then dream up like!
Parked 1.5mm over the white line!
Permit upside down!
Permit not on display!
Parked on dog!
Wrong colour car!0 -
If they want to know if you're insured, why can't they check the AskMid database, like the police do?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Yep, and as the OP pointed out, they allow anonymous cars to P&D in that car park too - so why collect details only from the permit-holders?
It's just unnecessary intrusion and the home/car insurance renewal dates are a giveaway.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The retention of original documents " for a few days" is dodgy, if you get a producer off plod, and they keep them longer than the time plod gives you there could be problems...0
