I'd tell them to do one.Its none of their business, cheeky gits.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
The outcome will be, no documents for people to steal and clone your identity, car and insurance = no parking permit.
For that alone I would be inclined to drop them right in the **** with crown copyright lawyers.
People that sit dreaming such rubbish up obviously don't have enough to do.
I am usually inclined to find ways of occupying them .Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

This, or just make the details up.
I have an 'online date of birth' I use when registering with new websites (obviously using my real DOB where it's needed, such as for policies & Bank accounts). There is no reason why H&M or ticketmaster, or whoever, need to know my real DOB so they don't get given it.
Same with this rubbish; tell them to do one or make something up. Or you could say the home insurance policy is not in your name - tell them it's in the name of someone else in your household - so it's none of their beeswax.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That's a brilliant idea!
Thanks everyone for your advice! I'm not sure whether it is run by the university or a private company. The form has no logo other than the uni and we have to take it to an office on campus for the permit, but I think it gets sent away.
This is a new system- last year was much more straightforward and was definitely run by an outside firm.
I will go to the office today and say I am not prepared to provide all of the information and see what happens...
I will let you know how i get on!0 -

If they get stroppy say beyond driver diocuments they are going too far, so ask who they are sellihg the data regarding expiry dates of unconnected insurances to and do they need to know who your pension fund is managed by, so you can be spammed by pension providers LoL0 -
I just thought I'd let you all know that I had absolutely no joy today!
I was told that it is part of the university statute that all drivers are required to have insurance, MOT and license on campus - this is the first year they are attempting to actually police it though. I did point it that it should really be the job of the police, but the security supervisor didn't take too kindly to that!
I then found out that not only do they want to see the originals, they actually want to keep them for a few days! That to me is completely ludicrous! Needless to say I queried it, and he pretty much said "them's the rules...."
It was at that point I decided to go to the student union for help. The president of the union had never seen the form before, didn't even know the procedure had changed and was suitably outraged! Turns out it is the outsourced facilities management responsible and they clearly tried to sneak the bizarre policy in with noone noticing.
So it is now in the hands of the union, we will wait to see what happens!0 -
Only to be expected I suppose.
A couple or so queries:-
1. What 'justification'(sic) was given in requiring the renewal dates of car (expiry date is already shown on C of I anyway) & particularly home insurance?
2. As well as obtaining & displaying a permit, do you also have to pay to park on campus?
3. Is there a PPC involved here, or is the 'policing' done in-house?
Hopefully with the SU now aware & involved, normal service (& sanity) will resume in due course.0 -
1. none whatsoever! There is a tick box to opt out of contact from "carefully selected 3rd parties"Only to be expected I suppose.

2. no, the permit is so that I don't have to pay. The irony is that it is possible to pay and display, without providing any proof of insurance, mot etc...
3. the policing is done by Facilities Management which is, as I understand, outsourced. Any fines or warnings are dealt with by a private company. The union gave me the impression that they have frequent run-ins with them!0 -

I think this smells decidedly fishy and would see this through on principal. I would even write to the Dean and asking why the University needs this information... my guess is that it (the Uni) doesn't and they have been suckered in by a PPC! However, York Uni act as their own PPC and issue people invoices, so maybe they don't give a stuff!0 -
While the Uni might pretend to be acting as their own PPC, that may not be the case. The Universities of York, Nothumbria (and I think Bradford) all do this, but if you dig deeper you will see that the paperwork has a Northampton address and phone number which actually belongs to a PPC called Car Parking PartnershipWhat part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
