The best way out of this is to reduce your tariff down as much as Vodafone allows and sell the phone to pay off the remainder of the contract. iPhone 4s fetch a pretty penny so it would likely cover all of the remaining commitment. There's no one you can complain to as there's nothing to complain about.

Sell the phone to help pay off the remaining months.

You can't get out of, or reduce your contract because of a change in your circumstances. You will be on a 'YPL' tariff which you can not downgrade.
  • ive got a 3GS and it only worth around £100 and the contreact is £45 pm
gonna leave voda as a friend has got help with his contract with a different netwok
plus sick ov vodas prices and poor signal and strict limited "but unlimited what i signed up to internet "access on phone
  • How are you planning on leaving them when you're still within contract though?

So some company will pay £250+ to buy you out. Why would they unless you buy another long and pretty expensive contract from them? I'd expect at least 24x£30+.

Of course, £30 is less than £45, but 24 is much more than 6.
  • You can write to them explaining your situation and include an income and expenditure sheet showing you can't afford to pay the full amount. Or you can go to citizen's advice and they will do this for you. Putting it in writing to them shows you have acknowledged the problem and have notified them of it.

I'm not sure if they will try and take the phone back but I would imagine if you've been paying for 18 months you would more or less own the phone out right.

You own the phone outright the moment you take it home - the network doesn't want it back, just the money you promised to pay them. You did agree to the contract, and it is not Vodafone's fault you were made redundant - sorry 'bout that, BTW - however this is not a valid reason to cancel, on ANY network. The answer is simply NOT to sign up for such a commitment. If you default, they will mark your credit file, and although you;ve never gone to court, it will be treated as if it was a CCJ by anyone looking at your file. It may be best to bite the bullet an complete the minimum term, giving 30 days notice in the month before the term ends, so you are not tied for a moment more than you need to.

The deals you mentioned are just a smokescreen, to tie you down to another commitment. Avoid at all costs.
