Back to the original post...

Hi all,
need some advice regarding slow download speed from Orange livebox.
On system information page the following shows:
Downstream:3257 kbps
Upstream:859 kbps.
I have ran many speed tests on Bt site and the latest result below;

Downstream: 55 kbps
Upstream :733 kbps.

I have been on the phone to Orange tech guys on three seperate times with different advice on each call. The last call on Friday told me to take cover off master BT unit and plug filter straight in and leave for 72 hours.
I left it till today and got the above results.
Would I be right in saying that the router is getting 3257 kbps from the phone line but the output from the router, wired or wireless, is only 55 kbps?
I put this to the guy on the phone but he then went on a tangent to blame something else. When I went on again about how a month ago I could watch Skygo on my laptop with no issues what so ever and the speed tester reading 2389 kbps he then asked if I could borrow another router from somebody and try this, if this improved the issue then they would supply a new router.
Just looking for some advice as to what Im saying about the router not giving out what its getting in is correct as this tech guy kept fobbing me off over this issue.

Thanks

If you are getting 55mbps while connected to the master test socket all this does is to eliminate internal telephone sockets/wiring being at fault.

Try using a different microfilter and telephone cable to eliminate these (these shouldn't cost much and its always worth having spares). If you borrow a PC/laptop to eliminate that, then if you borrow a router, and it still the same then it proves its an external line problem - you should call whoever provides your line to fix it telling them that the master test socket with totally duplicated kit does not improve matters - insist on this as in my expereince they still equivocate.

Obviously if replacing any replaced/borrowed item fixes the problem then that is your problem.

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply.
I have changed both filter and phone cable to no avail.
I have several computers in the network and all show the same level of download speed.
Will borrow router on Thursday to see if this is the issue,

Assuming that the PCs are connected to your router via ethernet cable which in turn is connected to your test socket, then it is either the router or line at fault.

Have you been migrated over from LLU to WBC/IPS network? You'd have got an E-Mail to your Orange E-Mail account.
If so it could be a profile issue or you're in the 10 day DLM period.

(I worked for Orange WBC Faults)

One learns from the IT business that you can rule nothing out, BUT

with a download speed of 55kbps (from 2.4mbps) I suggest that rhe problem is unlikely to be one which could be attributed to DLM unless a real c*ck-up has been made.

Bottom line, the OP needs to verify that the kit at his end is 100% okay so needs to verify with spare router.

    Hi all,

Yeah, I had that a few months back. I got on to support (aka the subcontinent) but they were pretty useless, put it on the main socket and wait 72 hours.

What is well worth trying is doing a factory reset on the Livebox.

Google livebox factory reset. I'm not allowed to do links yet. :rotfl:

This worked for me and sent my download speed to 3.5 meg off wireless.

My neighbour has the same set-up as me and gets 6 meg which upsets me just a little bit.

This is my first post on here and I'm sitting back waiting for your answer. I've been reading this website for years though; it's excellent.
