have you ever heard of dislexia? idiot.
Yes I know about dyslexia. How does me pointing out that someone has used the wrong word (note smiley) make me an idiot? People learn by having their mistakes corrected.

  • ofc `learning` works both ways , as was demonstrated yesterday on the bus i was on - person A was correcting the grammer of person B on the bus - so person B promptly smacked person A in the nose.
    the blood flow was impressive.

I think I no the industry very well, been in it for over 10 years. And as others have said if it registers in the meter which it would if on the outlet it would be charged for the gas.
The question however, was about the cost of the emergency call out, not about the gas-use.

regardless of the spelling he is correct in that once gas passed through the meter it is registered and therefore will be charge for as technically it has been used. As to how much that of course is open to speculation and debate as hard to quantify amount lost due to leak. Other than comparing like for like on usage.

The sulphur compound added to gas is remarkably strong smelling, the average person can detect and identify it at extremely low concentrations in the air. So, I wouldn't rush to worry about there being a huge gas bill coming based on it smelling strongly. I expect just a few pound of gas would make the average size house stink.

So, unless they started by evacuating the neighbours, you probably don't need to worry about the next gas bill, but of course don't confuse not too costly with not too explosive! A few pound of gas leaked in a confined space like a cupboard, under the floor or inside a chimney is still dangerous.

Very well put, of course you should never ever smell gas. always call 0800 111 999 no matter how slight the smell is. or even if you just get a whiff of it now and again please call.

It is not normal to smell gas by the meter or any other gas appliance or in the street. Natural gas has no smell so a chemical is added to it so you can detect a smell so you know it is leaking or may be a leak. Also it does not matter if you are the only one that can smell it and others cannot, call the gas emergency service, that is what we are there for - to deal with smells of gas and to ensure everyone's safety.

Call straight away we are on duty 24 hrs a day 7 days a week 365 days a year and even an extra day on leap years you will speak to a human in the uk who will help you,
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
