Is this really correct????

Options
Hi all,

can you help me at all. Stayed at a travel lodge in London with my Mum on Monday night as a treat to her and took her to a show. I live in Manchester and she lives in Stoke on Trent, so we caught the train. I had already had a reall time with booking my tickets and them cancelling my whole journey, but thats another thread.

Anyway I left my tickets on a shelf in our room when I checked out :o. As soon as i realised what I had done I contacted the travel lodge and asked them to go to the room to get them, or if they had been handed in. I was informed it is the housekeeping policy that anything found in the room (paper wise) is thrown away. I explained that they were in an evelope and had my name and address on the envelope. They said they would probably have been thrown away as nothing had been handed in. So I headed to Euston station where I explained that I had tickets with a seat reservation and my booking would be on the system if they checked. I was told it is their policy that if tickets are lost, stolen or destroyed you have to purchase another ticket. So I had to at a whopping £69!!!!!. First of all is this right???

On getting back home I have contacted the travel lodge customer services, which is at least a 20 minute wait each time and at 10p a minute, I had nearly paid for my room twice after 6 calls just trying to speak to someone.

Eventually, someone rang me to tell me that they had contacted the hotel and it is their policy to hand train tickets, bus passes etc into the lost property. I was also told that the cleaner that had cleaned the room had not found them. I was told that after I have checked out then it is not their liablity anything that is left in the room. However as I tried to explain the the gentleman, if the hotel policy is to hand in train tickets then they should have been handed in when the room was cleaned, unless it was not properly cleaned!! Also no one went to check the room, hence costing me an additional £69. They said it was only good will to hand in anything found, but how can this be if its hotel policy to hand in travel tickets. So my tickets have either been thrown away due to customer policy or left in the room for the next guest to gain my name, address and phone number. They said they can do nothing. IS THIS RIGHT!!!! Surely as I contacted the hotel they should have checked and due to hotel policy should not have thrown them away, but due to hotel policy may have. I'm confused, please help. Do I have a leg to stand on in any direction as I know I was at fault for leaving them, but surely I must have some rights due to following the correct procedure????

Kind regards

Disgruntled girl:mad:

Not sure if I have any due to my own stupidity in leaving them on the side in the room, thats why I was asking. I am guessing its just a put it down to experience, experience. I just cant see how the two hotel policies contadict themselves regarding the same issue. Surely someone should have checked for me when I went back.

Happened to me, except I didn't leave my ticket anywhere, the Underground broke down and I missed my train, the train companies response? Sorry you will need to buy a new ticket - Original ticket £11 per person, replacement ticket £83 per person.

And thats why I don't take the train, anywhere, anytime ever again.

We have no rights on this unfortunately - its a broken system IMO

I didn't notice that you went back; could you not just have asked to pop in and check yourself [with a staff member of course]?

If the train breaks down and you have to buy another ticket, I'm sure that you can get a refund.

This isn't a fair comparison. You had to pay the extra due to no fault of your own. Op has lost her own ticketsand now looking for somebody else to blame.
