    Yes it will.

A non fault accident which you didn't claim for shouldn't affect your insurance?

We know it shouldnt, but it does in a lot of cases unfortunately
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

  • I've just asked over on the Insurance board, maybe there is someone who works in insurance.

The one question i think i need answering - if I go to the police tomorrow morning, do I have to report that to the Insurance Company, or do I just report it when I have a registration number?

I am sorry, I've not had to do this before but if I call the insurance company they may note it and then I will have to declare it again in the future. I have to decide whether it is worth it. Sadly.
  • For a scrape on the bumper I'd take it to a body shop for a quote.. and then weigh up if it's worth fixing it or pursuing the other driver.
If you fix it yourself then it's not worth telling your insurance as they're never going to find out anything has happened and the other bloke isn't going to tell them. It could have been a trolley, a car or a pram that scraped it...
If you tell your insurance then you're putting yourself as liable to have more accidents in car parks.

If you tell the police, then i'd say to tell the insurance company to be on the safe side of your T&C's
  • Thanks SG - I asked on the insurance thread and someone else has said that the other bloke might go home and report me so I should tell the insurance company to cover myself as otherwise it would make me look guilty.

What a !!!!!! - I am annoyed with myself for not getting a photograph of his plate or something but he was driving off before I could realise. Do I take that risk? As he drove off would he bother reporting it?

I am at the stage of thinking 'can't be bothered' but am worried I might get the blame for it. He certainly did not get my plate so I guess that might make a difference and if he did go to the police I have several names and addresses of witnesses and the B&Q CCTV.

An accident which wasn't your fault, you didn't claim and they just drove off and took no details so unlikely to claim? I really wouldn't tell them anything.

Just be aware that the question on any applications will be something like "have you had any accidents?" to which you "should" now declare it, I am sure something minor like this most people would not bother to though.

As scheming_gypsy says, maybe just get a quote for the repair (maybe try a smart repairer?) to see if it is worth the hassle.

In B&Q today an old bloke reversed into my car. I have witnesses and I have the B&Q CCTV where they say they can see him hit me (and others trying to stop/warn him) get out his car, look at mine where I showed him and then he got back in and drove off. They cannot however see his numberplate as it is too blurry. The security guard suggested I go to the police and tell them as they would enhance the CCTV.

I've got a scrape on my bumper now and the car is not quite 2 years old, I am a bit miffed tbh. I have all my docs to go to the police but do I have to tell my insurance company and will this have an impact on my NCB and getting insurance elsewhere for the future?

Honestly, the guy should not have been driving, people were waving and shouting 'stop' and he said people were 'waving him out' and put the blame on everyone else. I also had my hand on my horn and he did not hear it and carried on reversing. He also had dark glasses on in a multi story car park, there is no way he could have been able to see. I only missed him caving in the side of my car because I shoved it in 1st and put my foot down when it was clear he was not going to stop. I want to go to the police because he should be stopped if he is not capable of driving any longer (sight and hearing bad) but I am worried it is going to mean I have to tell potential insurers I have had a scrape when they might not even be able to find the guy.

What are your opinions on this. Thanks.

That's why he's just a security guard, spends too much time watching TV and dreaming of what he could have been.

    What?

How can you young whipper-snappers make such allegations? He's been driving 40+ years and never had an accident!!

Seriously though, old people in cars are a real menace, they think their age can excuse their f**kups. They almost think they're untouchable!

They pile into a parked car and they think "oh I can just pretend im going senile and drive off without stopping".
