Just joined by upgrading to Club World (ie business) on a Heathrow to Nice flight - cost £20 extra for upgrade including lounge access on a £44 flight. Not bad at all.0 -
I have flown all over the world in business class and have still not reached silver or gold.It seems to take a very long time!travelover0

You have to get a certain number of tier point to move up to silver or gold. They are reset to zero at the end of the year so you have to re-qualify every year.
Not good value at all, if you are paying for it !0 -

It depends what your ticket cost - you can get some very cheap business tickets - see https://www.flytalk.com for details - but obviously you don't get the tier points to advance up to gold.
Although I haven't been a gold tier for 5 years it was nice to get upgrades on leisure flights however the lounges were usually better than the flight - just shows what a cattle-class service people put up with.0 -

Don't know about BA but with Virgin you just had to maintain your tier points at a certain level over the last 12 months - so 1 full-fare business flight for Silver and 4 to qualify for Gold (you needed only 3.5 to keep it each year).
Passengers in Business were an odd lot - lots of consultants being ferried across the Atlantic and billed to their clients to tell them the time using their own watch but occasionally someone actually running a business.0
