Any thoughts on a good PAYG deal I estimate my top up monthly would be about £10 a month max.

I use GiffGaff and for £10/month I get 250minutes, free texts and free Internet. Its a rolling contract so I can just not top-up and they don't continue billing me.
  • What are you going to be using? How many minutes/texts, do you need data? Any international/roaming use?

You need to explain what you actually intend to use your phone for. Topping up £10 each month may be unnecessary if it is possible to get your requirements fulfilled for less.

What call/text/data usage are you thinking of?

GiffGaff ? It is most certainly NOT a 'rolling contract' - there IS no formal commitment, and no mimimum term.

I would just be using it for texts and calls, just for use when out and about, most long calls I make are likely to be made from the house phone. Moving back to UK from abroad, so have no UK mobile at all at the moment, have an unlocked phone. Had a vodafone contract 3 years ago on a very cheap deal as I'd had it for years but cancelled that when we moved. Do have a Tesco sim and would have probably have stuck with that but have heard that the coverage for the area we are moving to is not great for Tesco mobile.

GiffGaff won't be any good to you then because they run of O2 network the same as Tesco

You may be better of going with Talk Mobile they run off Vodafone network but are owned by Carphonewarehouse.

Yet again you don't say how much you need for "out and about" and what is a "long call" for you.
If 25 minutes and 50 texts will suffice, then consider http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/simple.html# (vodafone) £1 p.m.

Take a look at the cash back offers on Quidco. TalkMobile often appear on there and you can end up with an even better deal.

Just looked and, for example, you can get £25 cashback for a 30 day sim only at £8/ month for 200 mins, 500 texts and 500m/b data.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a 30 day sim please?

I usually only make calls a few mins long on my mobile, hubby says 25 mins would not be enough for me (He obviously thinks I talk more than I think I do!!) I tend to use it to text more, 50 texts might be enough per month but I think maybe double that would be ok. £8 a month for 200 mins, and 500 texts seems like a good deal to me!

It's a sim-only 1-month rolling contract that you can cancel at any time by giving a 1-month notice.
Beware of high costs if you go out of the monthly allowances.

You can consider chitter-chatter 100+100 for £6 too. Add free unlimited texts or unlimited landline minutes.

ETA: some new deal from HUKD: Sim Only - 750 Mins, 5,000 Texts, 1GB Data Inc BT Openzone - £10 Per Month @ Tesco (Instore)
