Help with moving costs?

I'm not panicking yet but busy selling anything I can on ebay etc. If I can raise enough to cover just the removals costs at the moment, I would be happy. There's no substitute for a couple of strong able-bodied people and a large van!
FP, thanks for your offer to come down earlier; kind of you. I'm taking things steadily in packing and, so far so good. Boxes are even being labelled with description of contents and destination rooms! As I mentioned elsewhere, it's going to be best to put off your visit for a while (possibly til next year) as I won't have cooking facilities for a bit in the new place and, tbh, I just wouldn't be able to cope with a new house guest until I was straightened out at the new place, had all utilities in place, curtains etc. Thanks for the offer though as it's much appreciated. Hope the hossie stay goes well and is of benefit.
I'm gonna be cheeky and ask the foundation responsible for the build if they would give me carpets in return for a positive testimonial from the view of a disabled person living in one of their homes! They have done sensible things like make the stairs wide enough for a stair lift and enough width for a person as well iyswim. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Investigating HB crossover at the moment for both properties as that could make the move and cleaning the place I'm moving from easier. If I do come across any resources in my search that may be of use to people, I will post them here.
Whatsinaname, good luck to you too. I hope you manage to find an easy solution.
HB for both properties while you move shouldnt be a problems as a disabled person, you are entitled to it so dont let anyone fluff you around!0 -
There are lots of regulations regarding notice periods and outstanding rent obligations during those periods, but it is looking like a crossover of a couple of days would be OK and that would be enough just to take the pressure off me a little. The people I've dealt with so far have been sympathetic and helpful which is nice.
When I find out the exact criteria, I'll post the info here in case it'll be of use to anyone else.
It's really going to be hot off the starting blocks from tomorrow.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break

Dual HB can be paid for up to 2 weeks, afaik, so don't give yourself too little time!
Having said that, I have a feeling that you have to move into the new property very quickly in order to get it: it's to allow you to clear the old property rather than to prepare the new one IYSWIM. I could be wrong about that, but I seem to recall someone getting caught out by that.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You're right - you have to be residing in the new property, but apparently, it can be paid for a maximum of 4 weeks. Certainly won't need that long but a little extra time would certainly help with packing up etc.
It hinges on whether your rent is calculated daily/weekly/monthly and whether you have created the situation by giving notice late iyswim. Will find out tomorrow whether rent is daily or weekly - could be either as I am in temp LA accommodation.
Luckily everyone I've dealt with since I've been here has been very helpful and co-operative.
Can't wait to be in new place, but hating the upheavel again so soon after the last move.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break

I got dual for 4 weeks because the original tenancy agreement stipulated 4 weeks' notice to expire on a Monday with the keys handed in by 10am. Just because they said I could be out in two weeks if I wanted didn't mean I had to be, IYSWIM.
But as has been said, they only pay if you advise them you are in the new home, not if you are still trying to get out of the old. :cool:I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Thanks. I could arrange for most of my stuff to go (including bed!) immediately, but it would give me more time to pack and arrange another man wiv a van and a cleaning crew

just to let you know you have to have started your tenancy agreement and say that you have moved (this might only be the kettle at first!) in order to be considered moved in to the new property, then you can have 4 weeks cross over, your new address has to be the new property from the start of the tenancy0

Thanks for all the info. JoJo, do you happen to know how long a CCG takes to process? Looks like I may qualify after all under exceptional pressures as you suggested and the re-housing to suitable accommodation criteria. Will be applying today.
Just managed to pick up a mini oven on ebay for £15 til I can afford to get the LPG bottled gas installed and the cooker converted. Yay!
I was given a Remouska, but the top is too heavy for me and, being the part that gets red hot and you have to move, could spell another A&E visit, so best avoided

They aim to do them within about a week, I think. It wasn't long at all - it was in the bank before receiving a letter saying it was coming. It may be different now, as it's a year further into Tory administration, but I think they are still pretty quick.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
