Orange - anything better than Canary 10?

We've been with Orange for years (from before the extra '7' was introduced into the dialing code!), and I've been perfectly happy with the service.

We're now coming up to the end (October 5th) of a 24 month deal and I'm looking at the options; I like the Nokia 6700 classic I've got, and so am considering a SIM-only deal.

Canary 10 is 300 cross-network minutes and unlimited texts for £10/month, as opposed to our current Dolphin 15 which has only 100 minutes and is £15 including handset, and it looks to me like it's pretty much unbeatable.

Are there any mega-deals that might sway me from that?

Before asking about 'mega-deals' you have to say what you need in the first place.

Also, are you really determined to stay with Orange?

What do you actually want in terms of minutes/texts?

There are some really cheap monthly SIM deals, but in nearly all cases have really expensive run-on rates if you run out of minutes/texts.

You can get 300 minutes and 1000 texts for £8 per month. (also happens to have data thrown in)

You can get 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £10 per month. (or reduce texts to 500 and get unlimited landline calls)

Both great value if you stay within bundle.

Do you use any "extra value" features of Orange like magic numbers? Are there any specific benefits you would lose leaving Orange?

Thanks for the replies so far.
    • As I mentioned, I'm happy with Orange and don't feel the need to change, but if I did I would want to keep my number.
    • My call plan is based around phone calls and texts; Internet on a phone doesn't do it for me (I have an iPhone from work and apart from the emails that go with the job, I've only used it for internet a couple of times).
    • As far as other providers go, I've used T-mobile and am not impressed, my work iPhone is with O2 and I'm not enthusiastic about them, I have a "3" data dongle and the reception isn't great so they're not looking too good either.
    • We are a family of 5, and it's my wife's and my phones on this contract coming up for change, and the others have Orange phones too.
    • I do have the magic numbers, but any plan would probably have enough minutes anyway.
    • We do the Orange Wednesdays thing from time to time.
  • If you're happy with Orange then the Canary 10 sounds like a great deal if you don't need any data :)
  • I was offered a a Nokia E5 (5mp camera) 200 minutes and 500 texts per month for £5 !!!! unbelieveable when I tried to cancel; I was getting less than this for £20 per month. I now have a new Nokia E5 and a extra contract I dont need haha but offer was too good to miss

Porting is not and has never been a problem

How many? 100? 300? Do you not understand that this is the starting point? You can get 'mega deals' like 25 minutes for £1 p.m. and 1500 minutes for £18.
IIRC you can get 100 minutes (that last for 1 month) for £5 on Orange PAYG (by buying £5 'extras').
As far as other providers go, I've used T-mobile and am not impressed,
I think t-mobile and Orange share 2g network and will share 3g very soon. However, you don't need 3g.

    Thanks again.

My current (Dolphin 15) plan is 100 minutes and unlimited texts. I usually stay within the 100 minutes, but that's because I am frugal with its use.

The Canary 10 plan is 300 minutes and unlimited texts; I guess I would use the extra talk time given that it was available.

I think chitter-chatter (T-mobile) posted above is much better value for money with 600+Unltd for 12x£10.
So is Talkmobile (Vodafone) 300+1000 for 6x£8
