ebay charging me for an auction we both agreed to cancel

Options
A foreign bidder won an auction of mine for £237 and I did not ship outside UK so I asked the bidder if we can do a mutual cancelation. He agreed, but ebay are still charging me fore it - £23! I sold the item again for £240 so I'm being charged twice for this item!

What do I do?

Ebay fees seem pretty high imo.

Are you sure you completely finalised the mutual cancellation process and that buyer didn't accidentally refuse the mutual when asked by ebay?

You should be able to check in your dispute console.

  • Last time I had an eBay refund it took ages.

Meantime soolin's right-go back and check it's really cancelled in the resolution centre.
  • I would check again as already stated, as you should not have to pay the fee. As for the fee, its just under 10%, which seems fair to me as you could have sold it twice. Most Auctions are 15%+vat anyway.
Ebay is still the premier selling site. We just have to take all the fees into account when selling.

In other words - you've done it wrong. Again.

You might not have got the traffic to get £237 for it on other sites - and if you are attracting foreign bids and don't post outside the UK, you should block them completely by "blocking buyers in countries I don't ship to" and not uploading a foreign postage price.

Of course the fees are high if you are continually rejecting the highest bidder.

If you items are attracting foreign interest despite your listing UK only, though (and it's not a mobile phone or other item that attracts scammers), and you want to make this amount of money for your items, why not try and see if there's a good courier who will ship abroad? It's not much different and it will mean the difference between this failed sale and actually completing the deal and getting the money to pay your fees.

Which is what you want...isn't it?

I agree, i used to just sell my items in the UK, but i once got an email from a user in Australia to see if i post their. the items i sell are niot what scammers are after, so i checked on postage costs and informed the potential buyer of these and they agreed to pay, so i amended the item with postage to australia and this user purchased, now i have certain countries listed that i will post too and over the last 2 years i would say 20% of my sales come from overseas.

Apologies macfly, I thought this seemed familiar and you are quite correct this has happened to the OP before:

OP, did you not set your preferences properly after the last incident? If you don't know how to do that then go here and read the tips for new sellers:
