I'd use the P46 form or the P45 from the job from the previous week if I still had it or use the P45 from the jobcentre. If it was just 1 day and I knew during the first day I wasn't going to be capable and left without notice I wouldn't even be chasing 1 day's pay anyway. What would that be maybe £60 for not actually doing anything productive for the employer?

makes sense, I just thought with it being on a p45 it would be "official" but if you can use a p46 instead then that would be the better option.

    thanks
  • well update...he has been to job centre or where ever you go and outcome gave in rent 'agreement' or whatever it is officially called and told he will get paid for his rent £400 a month and get JSA and can work ??16hrs without having to give anything back. To be honest I am pretty gobsmacked as thought he wouldnt be paid anything for at least 6 weeks. There is no ill health or anything like taht to be taken in to account so basicically you can give up your job for no reason and be better off housing paid JSA and computer courses thrown in in fact he will be better off and intends to go to the cinema daily!!!!

I know I am his partner and I willbe better off as dont have to cover him for funds but gobsmacked is the word that comes to my mind why do workers bother????

Usually they will investigage first, then once they see he left for no good reason the sanction will then apply.
He also might not get full HB paid, he wont of been given a definate answer on the spot, and job centre have nothing to do with housing benefit.

He may get JSA straight away but after a few weeks after the decision makers have investigated he still could be sanctioned up to 26 weeks. If you are living together and your OH is claiming income based Jobseekers any income you receive will be taken into account.

As for working 16 hours a week and not have to give anything back, either your OH has not understood or it has not been explained clearly, he can work up to 16 hours a week, but this will have to be declared at the Jobcentre. for a single person there is a £5 disregard from any wages earned then the rest is taken into account. For a couple there is a £10 disregard. For example JSA is £67.50 a week for over 25's. Weekly wage is £55 minus £5 disregard. £50 of this is then deducted from the weekly JSA of £67.50 which means he would receive a weekly amount of JSA of £17.50
  • I could not cope with a partner that gave up work without a job to go to. How long did it take him to find this job? And to rule it out 1 day in :(

Please don't support him money wise op, he needs to support himself.

    Good luck x

  • Thank you so much for your replies, particulary Pink Princess.

You echo just how I feel. I really dont know if I can go on withthis much longer. We live apart but had planned to live together new year. Alkready i am having to sub everything with promises of pay back and seen nothing yet. And thats in 6 months and I must be £600 down (and no I am not rich I am bi polar and on IB) to be honest all this is nudging me in the situation of becoming very unwell and CPN crisi team want to admitme.

Hethinks he cango on spending my money and gives me shopping lists to buy and booked a weekend away and I 'have to pay fares and food as well as £110 hotel. I really cant take any more as my finances are getting in a mess again. But in all honesty my confidence is low and feel well this is all im worth.

But I simply cant go on like this if he cared really he wouldnt be doing this to me really would he?

He expects housing benefit and JSA but like you say once it is assessed im sure he wont get it.

Im planning to be off out of this for my sanity.

    Thanks everyone

I will keep you updated with their decision.

    xx

If my partner of 12 years sprung that on me without notice I'd be annoyed. I could afford that, but I'd feel that wasn't the point - if he's booking something without telling me in advance, he pays. If we jointly choose the holiday and agree to it, that's different.

Your partner either didn't understand what he was being told, or he is spinning you a yarn.

If he works he will have to declare it even under 16 hours per week. Single person get's to keep the first £5 then the DWP deduct £1 for £1 what he earns from him benefits.

    £400 a month for renting a room?

You haven't got mug stamped on your forehead have you? He's taking you for a ride.
