Well its my OH not me...
He had a job started a new one, left after a day.
In his 40s rents a room no savings etc.
He feels he can just sign on and get JSA and rent paid.
Im not so sure! I thought if you gave up work you had to wait 6 weeks before you could claim, or even longer.
He has an appt booked to see them but wondered if anyone could put me right on this. I have looked on directgov website and it made no mention of this.
Thanks

you can be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks i think it is0

Plus he might not get all his rent paid, depends on how much it is etc0

If he walked out after one day chances are they will sanction him-for how long is debatable but long enough to make life difficult unless there were very very good reasons why he couldn't continue with the job .
Housing benefit is a different claim -I'd guess until he knows what happens with his JSA he won't have the figures to put in a claim-but basically I think he's not going to be getting what he expects from benefits.

Thanks everyone, these replys are all along the same lines I was thinking.
He has been ion FT employment in same job for some years, but walked out of this new job after one day as felt it was all too much and couldnt do it...
So im expecting they wont blook at that reason in a positive light.0 -
Leaving because he isn't capable of doing the job "can" be looked on in a different light but really he should have let the employer tell him he wasn't capable of doing the work and not to bother to come in the next day. Does the employer agree that he was incapable of actually doing the job? I'd get some agreement on that if it can be be a mutual decision then it could be seen in a positive light. Thanks everyone, these replys are all along the same lines I was thinking.

He called the HR in the evening and explained his concerns.
They expressed support asking him to meet them next day urged him to go in and reassured him he would learn all the info and they understood of course it would be over whelming after one day...
So I guess the JSA people would contact company and this support would come to light.0 -
Leaving after just 1 day would not be seen to be giving the job a "fair chance", and that's what the JC will say, he can be sanctioned up to 26 weeks, but it'll be at the decision makers discretion how long it actualy will be for.
He really should have tried to give it a proper go, won't look good on his CV either.0 -
I'm not sure about everyone else but if a 1 day job didn't work out for me I just wouldn't put it on my CV and if anyone asks why I left my last job I wouldn't even mention the 1 day job and just give reasons for the job that lasted for much longer.Leaving after just 1 day would not be seen to be giving the job a "fair chance", and that's what the JC will say, he can be sanctioned up to 26 weeks, but it'll be at the decision makers discretion how long it actualy will be for.

if he handed in a p45 would their details not be on it?0 -
I'd use the P46 form or the P45 from the job from the previous week if I still had it or use the P45 from the jobcentre. If it was just 1 day and I knew during the first day I wasn't going to be capable and left without notice I wouldn't even be chasing 1 day's pay anyway. What would that be maybe £60 for not actually doing anything productive for the employer?if he handed in a p45 would their details not be on it?:footie:
