So I say again.... What EXACTLY is an 'elevated user command'?

Isn't it a command that the Administrator can do but the Standard User cannot?

'An administrator account is a user account that lets you make changes that will affect other users. Administrators can change security settings, install software and hardware, and access all files on the computer. Administrators can also make changes to other user accounts.'

  • Thanks for all the links guys. It really is doing my head in now as it is total catch 22 situation. It gives the message to do the updates asap which I postpone for as long as possible but then it does them and says some did not configure properly and takes at least half an hour to put back the changes so I am doomed whichever way I go about it!!! Will try the microsoft helpline over the weekend if I get chance.

  • I had the same problem on Win 7. The problem was caused by my firewall, ZoneAlarm. Well I think it caused the problem. Uninstalling ZA and using the Windows firewall instead solved the problem.
  • Right I use Windows firewall anyway so that wont solve my problem but thanks anyway.

try momentarily disabling updates from auto to manual. then use system restore to roll back to when u did not have the problem.

Ah, I've just fallen in!! Sorry to be slow, I was thinking the word 'elevated' referred to the command rather than the person. Oops.
Thanks, your words helped the penny to drop.:o
