My Motorola Atrix is labelled as 4G...I don't know if the use of HSPA+ gives it its 4G label, but tbh, it doesn't feel a cut above the current 3G phones.

Having said that, I've only recently entered the smartphone market so perhaps HSPA+ is relatively novel - I have no idea!

In the US, the majority of phones described as 4G aren't. They are either WiMax or mostly just HSPA+. Bear in mind that these phones are often highly customised by the carrier. Its probably not worthwhile buying.

there is no real 4G standard yet. It's a case of agreeing on industry standard like WiMax or LTE. They probably are just HSPDA+.

With phone from USA you have to make sure it is GSM compatible. CDMA will not work here.
  • I'm not aware that we have 4g connectivity in the UK yet, that article you've linked to is American where they do have it.

No we don't, and yes that is an American article. But the point they make about technology such as HSPA+ being more 3.5G than 4G was the point I was making, and sorta relevant to the OPs question. I think 4G is in the process of being trialled in the UK atm.
  • this is one i was looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HTC-Sensation-4G-1GB-Black-Unlocked-Smartphone-/290611942046?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item43a9d2529e

just wondered if it would work in uk.

Some postings say just sensation and some say sensation 4g.

I know we dont have 4g over here but just wondered if it basically the same phone?

BT are trialling 4G LTE in part of Cornwall but only for a few hundred people as a way of providing high speed broadband.

And let us not forger people mis-naming the Apple iPhone - I've lost count of the number of numpty's who call the current version of the iPhone 4 the 4G (because the previous version was the 3GS).
