    @Mo786uk,

    They were first on my list to call, and very helpful they were.

    :mad:

    I should have used TR Italy, this was take from their web site;

    Abbiamo il piacere di confermarti che NON applicheremo spese aggiuntive per il pagamento effettuato con carta di credito. Il prezzo visualizzato alla fine della prenotazione sarà quello totale, addebitato sulla carta di credito........

    Translated means;

    We are pleased to confirm that (TR) does NOT charge extra for debit or credit card. The price of the reservation will be displayed at the end of the total charged to your credit card.

    In other words: No charge.....

    I have received a letter from my credit card company in this mornings post accepting my 'chargeback' claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1975 against Travel Republic and are to refund my deposit.

    They have accepted that TR were in breach of the Consumer Protection Regulations 2002 by not disclosing all charges, extras & fees prior to acceptance/confirmation of the booking.

    I hope my experience will help others that have had similar problems.

    Fantastic - I'll try to chase mine then.
    Only potential hurdles:

    1. If I put it on my Amex card, that is now closed.
    2. If I put it on my Egg card (more likely), that is now Barclaycard.

    Hopefully the time delay wont be a problem - we shall see.
    Well done. I'll go through my old statements tonight to try and identify who I purchased this with.

    SC.

    Edit: Found it as a purchase on Egg (now Barclaycard). Can't use the regular dispute process, so will need to call them.
  • @Sillychuckie,

    Talk to Consumer Direct, they are really helfull and will advise how you stand and what to do next.

    Further to Visa credit card finding in my favour against Travel Republic that they had breached Consumer Protection Regulations and have refunded the deposit I had paid under a 'Chargeback' claim under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, I have received a reply from the ASA, The Advertising Standards Agency.

    The ASA have agreed that I have made valid points in my complaint against the Travel Republic web site. The ASA have instructed TR to change their web site so that 'customers are aware of any compulsary costs before they book'. Should TR not change their web site the matter will be refered to the ASA Council and a formal investigation will take place.

    It's odd that the ASA have found that TR are in breach of their codes and Consumer Direct, Visa Card have found that TR are in breach of Consumer Law yet our dear friends at ABTA can't see that they are doing anything wrong. :beer:
  • Well well - that was easy.
    Got my money back now too... though I expect it is more likely Barclaycard taking the hit, than them charging it back to travel republic.
    Either way - they agreed with my case, so that says it all.

    Thanks Intasun32 for encouraging me to write the letter.
    SC.

    @Sillychuckie,

    Well done, I am glad you got your money refunded.

    That's two more customers that Travel Republic have lost.....

  • Are people aware they also make a charge for debit cards?
    Again they say it is hidden away in their Terms and Conditions.

    This does appear contrary to OFT advice.
