This takes a lot of prep, but i freeze it, and then whenever we fancy a takeaway, i have it ready - i was sceptical, but it really is like a takeaway curry!!!
I have a good recipe for foo young, really quick and easy.
3 - 4 eggs,
Handful of bean sprouts,
2 tsp soy sauce,
veg oil - for frying,
1 tsp salt.
Mix ingredients together, and fry (like an omelette) You can add any extras you like (i often add some cooked chicken).0 -
Could you freeze your home made dishes and get them out when you really don't feel like cooking?
I have weaned us all off the take aways as they cost such a lot of money. I prefer my own food much more now as its healthier and cheaper. I worry about the fat and additives in take out food, also hygiene.0 -
If you fancy Indian make this rice and then just buy the curry to make it cheaper but still a treat.
This rice sounds hard to do but really is fool proof.
Put some oil in a pan add 4 cardamon pods, 4 cloves, half a cinnamon stick and one tspoon of cumin seeds. Then add one chopped onion and 1 cup of frozen peas ( can be straight from freezer ). Than add half a tsp of tumeric and throw in a cup of basmati rice ( asdas own is fab ) then 2 cups of water, bring to the boil and then put on lid and gently simmer til cooked. This is as good as a take out rice if not better and much cheaper!.
Hope you have something nice for tea and if you do have a takeaway Oh well back on the bandwagon tomo!May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080 -
Does anyone know where I can buy a nice supermarket seaweed from? I love seaweed from the chinese but the Blue Dragon one I have had tastes horrible in comparison. My friend's husband use to make his own by chopping the spring cabbage etc but she divorcing him and I can't be bothered to stand frying cabbage - it takes the lazy bit away from it.0

Try finding a local Asian or Chinese food store depending what you fancy, if I go to Newcastle there is a cash and carry the take away owners use that sells to public, most sauces they use for chinese curry are a packet mix of some sort. One I am yet to master is Indian food, but will be giving it a try soon, a friend of mine is Indian and been plaguing him to get recipes off his Mum for me
Oh and egg fried rice I am still practising.
When we do have a treat tends to be Indian food, as every attempt I make just isn't right, great idea making part of it. Just bought some things to try to make Naan breads. One day I might be more organised...........

for us the takeaway thing is as much about not having to cook a proper mealand eating somthing not that good for you that tastes yum than about craving a chineese etc
since trying to be oldstyle i always make sure we have treats like frozen scampi/calamari and oven chips in for when we would have had a takeaway. these are more expensive than cooked from scratch meals but still a lot cheaper than a £15 takeawaay
asda also do a 2 person meal deal for £6, These reallly arent bad- prior planning prevents poor performance!

The takeaway for me is about something nice without having to cook it. So when in that mood, I boil pasta, drain it, and add a jar of Bertolli green pesto to it, with grated cheese on top. Nice, not that good for you and literally takes 5 minutes.
For me,cooking a chinese when I want a takeaway ISN'T the same at all!!!0 -
Mummyummy - the trick to HM egg fried rice is to use cold, cooked rice. Beat the egg and pour into a pre-warmed frying pan, let set for a bit and then stir into shreds. Once it's done, tip it out and then add some oil to the pan, maybe some chopped spring onion, and then add your cold rice to heat through properly (you can add whatever you like before the rice - peas, ham, veg etc) Once the rice is warmed through, add the egg and stir to mix.
If you pour beaten egg onto hot rice you get a nasty mess - been there, done that!0 -
Ahhhh that is where I am going wrong, throwing an egg into hot rice, right will try that next time
thanks seraphina
as going to ask a friend who's parents have a restaurant but he wasn't answering the phone!
