  • Yay - 24 packs of Andrex on the Go bought from W@rw1ck last night. Very useful to keep one or two at a time in the little lady's change bag.

The trip was made better by the Finest sausages being reduced to 13p a pack, so I bought 6 and, unbeknown to me at the time, it triggered a further £4.14 reduction due to their '3 for £6' deal.

Just wondering how late you had to go to get such a good reduction on the sausages. I went to my local Mr T's the other day and there were 75% reductions in the middle of the day!! Wondering if there is more choice later at night? Would like to see if that deal for the sausages kicks in for me, as I love some of the varieties they do in the finest range :)

It obviously depends on your local store, at mine your lucky if you get 20% off at 9pm. Was there at 5pm the other day and they had 86p off a £10 joint of beef that was OOD that day.
    :(

That's a million dollar question :) From my experience, they discount twice (sometimes 3 times): once around 11 am or so by about 25% and, later on, depending on when the store closes, by 75% (around 8 pm or so if they close at 10 pm). Then, 40 min before closure there are some really good bargains such as steaks for 30p but it really depends: you might not get anything because things fly off the shelves at 75% discount.
I've noticed some exceptions to this pattern during the holidays. My local stores were closed for 2 days (25th and 26th) so there were massive discounts on 27th (double cream and sausages for 10p) just because they had a lot of stock which they hadn't managed to sell before 27th. I'm going to try my luck on Jan 2 because they'll close early on 31st and won't open at all on Jan 1st.
Disclaimer: this is based on observations in my local stores (Tesco Metro). Happy to hear from other wise MSE people about theirs :)

I regularly go at about 8:30 on a Thursday evening. It's not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination, but it's roughly every other time that I go that there are massive reductions on packs of vegetables. Yesterday though the cucumbers were rank!

I've never had such great reductions on meat before yesterday though which were being sold at 5% of their original cost - this was absolutely a one-off for me! These appeared at about 9:30 just as I was about to go to pay. I just went to have a look on the off-chance.

There was an Indian family who had got to the reduced chilled section before me and had already taken practically everything else that didn't contain pork, presumably on religious grounds - there was nothing significant other than pork sausages and pork stuffing left. So like me, they were completely unaware of the free money voucher that those sausages had effectively amounted to. It was a nice surprise. :)

Congrats - can you tell us exactly which four Meal Deal items you chose (3 food + wine) please?

    TIA :T

The items I bought were the Chicken Kievs, the cheesy mash, the Gu? caramel puds & a bottle of Howcroft Cabenet Sauvignon.
The huffy manager seemed to think that it was the bottle of wine that had triggered the glitch as he ordered the chap from the CS desk to take the three remaining bottles off display & carry them back to the CS desk as I followed him back for my refund.
  • When I noticed the massive reductions in the middle of the day in my local Mr. T.'s which is in Br*&dsta*rs, Kent, the Extra store, I stocked up! Lots of finest meals reduced by more than 75% (was the ticket machine broken or faulty or a lazy assistant??). I got beef bourgionion (excuse poor spelling) was £7.50 for £1.39. I couldnt make it fresh for that! Picked up four for the chest freezer. Lots of Pizza Express Pizzas for £1 and also some other varities of Tesco Finest food reduced by over 75%. When I got home, I totted up my saving (had I been foolish enough to do the same shop at full price) and I saved over £68! Very pleased. Im planning to go back tonight, but will also go on the 2nd and see what I can nab. I used to do this alot on a Sunday. Arrive at the store at 1pm and stroll around until the final reductions were done and then fill the trolley. Saved me a small fortune on the weekly shop and we ate like kings! Sort of drifted away from the idea when Mr. T's stopped taking any coupons regardless of whether you bought the item or not, but shall be back on it for 2012 as I want to overpay on my mortgage. Happy hunting! :rotfl:
