Well if I have no real reason for needing a council flat, and I am in no rush to get one (could be agesz before Ieven bid). What do I put on the "why do you want to move from your currenty property" section0

Tell them what you've told us "I want to move from my present property into a 2-bedroomed property that I can buy at a hudge discount under the "right to buy" scheme.
You'll go straight to the top of the list .......... not!
(PS - discount depends upon how long you have been a tenant!)0 -

I am an adult and wish to start my adult life living on my own.
or
I want to live independently from my family.0 -
depending on where you are, you could find getting council accomodation as a single person either very easy or very hard.
it will be either a 1 bed flat at best, or at worst a studio, rtb takes years and possibly is restricted to certain lenders.
if you really need somewhere then be prepared to move a fair distance and have some sort of connection to the areaWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
Do you need a council house? You have an income yes? I.E. a Job?
Why don't you just rent privately?0 -
If you go to your local council housing waiting list and look at recent lets you will see how many people have bid for each property and what band (Gold Silver or Bronze) have been allocated. This should give you some indication on what you are up against.
You will not be allowed to under occupy either a LA house or a HA property.0 -
Lettings to single person council / housing association accommodations have for years been made predominately to people with issues (mental health issues, institutionalised from years in prison/ hospital/ armed forces, people with learning disabilities, people with serious health issues, people who were in care, - and sometimes to allow 'offending behaviour' to be managed in the community) (and there's not necessarily anything wrong with this) - HOWEVER welcome to your new prospective neighbours!!!! (Good luck - you may need it.....)0

I find it quite alarming you want a council house just so you can buy it. They are for people who really need them, not people wanting a cheaper way to buy.
Try your local HA instead and they will own it with you if you qualify.0 -
Get a young girl pregnant, stop working and of course you can have a council house!!!
It's not unknown for single men to be allocated a council house but you won't be top of the list. Council houses aren't built with single, working males in mind.
Having read your other post, i'd say stay at your dads and save a deposit. Or... f you're dying for independence, how about a house share/rent a room somewhere?0
