    house unlikely.
    flat yes.

you'd be housed according to your housing need so unlikely to qualify for anything more than 1 bed place.

Well, can you buy a flat under the right to buy scheme?

I have know a few (very few) people get it when there single, but maybe they have a disability.

    Yes.
But council (ex) are notoriously expensive on service charges and repairs.

It's done according to need. Some people might not be single but have had a family with them at one time. There has been muttering s about removing single people from huge council properties and housing them appropriately.
They can't touch the singles currently I dn't think though.

HOWEVER a single person on a single income in a BIG house is likely to spend more money on heating than they can probably sensibly afford.
  • Hiya,

No, you won't be eligible for a 2 bedroom property unless you have any children you have access to or can prove you need an extra bedroom for medical needs, maybe someone to stay over and care for you etc.

Likelyhood is you will be offered a 1 bed flat or studio, but depending on where you live and the demand for local authority housing it won't be instantanious. Get yourself on the list and start bidding for properties and see what comes up.

I used to have a private house/flat. It was classed as a flat but had a downstairs and upstairs (with bedrooms were) so basically a house. (it was above a shop).

So to clarify there is no chance of me getting a house? what about housing assasiation... can you get housed with them if single, can you buy there properties over?

Hmmmm I work but DO have anxiety and depression. Could I say my dad needs to stay over the odd night when I have bad depression. Or will they just question why I moved from him in the first place
  • Yes your get a one bed place or studio, I've been on the list for 5 years and nothing, Often wondered about having a baby getting flat then selling baby on ebay...... (Pure joke I will never do such a thing)

I have since given up waiting and started saving... Be interesting to see what happens 1st a deposit to buy in South West London or a council flat.. I know which one my money is on.....

    Good luck

No, you can't lie to get a council house. You don't actually need 2 bedrooms as you have proved.

And you keep asking about buying. If you want to buy, buy. If you can afford to buy, you can probably afford to rent your own place.

The idea was for me to buy it under the right to buy scheme. You get a big discount on ex-council
