I suspect you'd be straight on here to complain if the payee's bank details had changed and the money went astray.

not assume some faceless clerk knows better than me what will work in MY life.

It won't be a clerk - it will be an automated process done by their central computer.

BAA1 & pmduk are quite correct - during a twelve month period of non-activity between your account and the payee, it is quite possible that the payee may change their bank account details and not think to inform you - in which case, your money may disappear into a black hole for some considerable time while the problem is investigated.

Sorry, didn't realise you knew me in order to be able to make such a sweeping statement. Who are you again?

    You should know better.

Turn a questionable OP into what is now becoming a pointless session of BS - why bother.

If you want to have a hissy fit do it elsewhere - as per the start of this post why do it publicly - read the responses above and take a view, then move on - ideally with fresh perspective.

Life's too short for hostilities.... lighten up. :)

I have just discovered that Lloyds online banking feel free to make arbitary decisions about their customers choices in operating their accounts.
I went to make a payment online to a payee that I only have to transfer money to occasionally.
That payee was not shown in the list where I expected it to be.
I went into town to my own branch to ask them why, on further investigation, I discovered that ALL my payees had been removed!
To say i am not happy is an understatement! Their explanation is that if a payment is not made within a 12 month period they 'tidy up' the account. By whose authority I ask?
    I am absolutely livid.
Some jumped up little programmer has decided that they know better than me how I wish to operate my account. Without warning or reference to me. How dare they!
I've never had this happen at any other of the banks that I hold accounts with so whats wrong with LLoyds?
It is not that quick a job to trawl through piles of files and reestablish all the information required to set these payments up again.
I am seriously considering whether I want to stay with Lloyds after this.
    Rant still in progress.:mad::mad:

Lloyds online haven't made arbitary decisions. As it's been pointed out it's quite normal banking practice and because you weren't aware doesn't make it wrong or worthy of a pointless rant. It happens with most banks ! It's done your your security and to only have reasonably up to date account details stored.

If it's not a quick job for you to trawl through piles of files then maybe you should have a quicker, less complex filing system in place ! As you now know Lloyds like to perform 'housekeeping', have you tried it ?

I'd imagine Lloyds wouldn't be too dissapointed if you were to take your high and mighty attitude elsewhere !

Question for you...13 months later the payment is still there since you last you used it, you decide to send money to it, later on you discover the receiver no longer has that account as they closed it 6 months ago.

So the bank "tidied up your account, so what, get over it.

Somebody who has lived long enough to see (and make) many mistakes. Banks have to cater for all of their customers, hence their trying to do the best for the majority of their customers. I doubt whether they have have a flossy_splodge's account staff to meet your own particular needs, Neither would you be prepared to pay for such staff.
