You're not helping your case here! You are supposed to destroy the PIN notification and memorise the PIN, not keep it!
Your reason for requesting a PIN reminder is very silly indeed given that you actually knew the PIN.0 -
I know, now I've had all these things pointed out to me, I'm starting to doubt myself!0

To protect the details of my investigation, I’m unable to provide the specific information which has led to my decision. My investigation does indicate that your card and PIN were not intercepted in the mail and I therefore believe that both items were successfully delivered to your home address
I don't have time to read the rest of the thread but the Nationwide "evasion" is classic grounds to refer the case to the FOS. The FOS will make its own judgement but will not stand for any "evasion".
Specifically the "not intercepted in the mail" assertion. To return to an issue I hinted at earlier, the "letter box" issue, have you ever indicated whether or not you have an exclusive letterbox and in the course of the investigation were you asked about your letter-box status? That is a central issue.
Other than that "open" issue, the Nationwide argument seems "weak". Of course I don't know what "hard evidence" they would present to the FOS, but without hard evidence I don't think they will get far. So (1) go for an SAR and (2) go FOS.0 -
The FOS have no powers so why are you all shouting as if they can close them down? Only the FSA have these powers. The FOS are like my arris ; useless!0

Has to be a family member or close family friend who would have had access to OP's house to get access to the mail.
If the OP knows where his younger siblings and parents where then it only leaves close family friends/neighbours.
BTW OP unfortunately I've heard lots of family horror stories so don't immediately rule people out, only rule people out once you have confirmed they weren't in any of the locations. It's also easy for many siblings to impersonate another sibling of the same gender.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Well when I rang up intially to request a new card, i asked for a pin reset (just in case) because I couldn't find the letter that your pin comes on and I do like to keep it just for my own reference purposes. The bank told me that they can't reset me pin but that they would send me a pin reminder along with my card and that i could change it when i recieved it.
Thanks Adam, as others have said it probably wasn't the most sensible thing to do with hindsight but at least it explains why the new PIN was sent.0 -

Nobody has suggested the FOS can close a financial institution down (if only, I have a shortlist if they're interested and can recognise Spanish names). A consumer's recourse is only to complain to the FOS, so perhaps you should check your facts before opening you own 'arris! Feel free to check the FSA's website here0
