Boiler cover, some advice

Hi all,
Our situation is this: we have a 4 year old boiler which has just broken down. Luckily, according to the pumber we called to look at it, this was caused by a failure in the transformer/circuit board. These were replaced for free less than a year ago after they were damaged during a spike in the electricity current. It looks like Haste, who were originally called in to fix the boiler, will fix it again for nothing as it was their replacement parts which failed.
Nonetheless, this has got us thinking that perhaps it is time to think about getting insurance cover in case anything goes wrong in the future. With this in mind, I'd like to canvess some opinions. For a start, I'm not sure that insurance cover is the right way to go: many on these forums seem to have had major disappointments with cover providers (particularly Homeserve). I'm wondering if we would be better sticking a bit of money away each month and just use that in the event that we need to repair it. On the other hand, the plan provided by SSE looks good, but I can't find as many reviews of them as the others. Has anyone used them?

  • I think after speaking to the repair guy yesterday, who used to work for them, it's probably best taking out a service plan with the Worcester Bosch. His reasoning was that they have all the parts for and are trained to (and used to) working solely on that make of boiler. I notice that a lot of the complaints about Homeserve on here seem to focus on the fact that they get third party contractors in who resort to changing parts in the vain hope that they find the problem. Given that's the case, it's probably wise to go with WB.

    Ha.... ride along..... most manufacturers use Homeserve.....

    Too costly for the manufacturers to have lots of engineers around the country.
    In Sclotland WB has 39 field engineers.... can you imagine the time it takes to travel around, the country
