When is the best time to book flights?

We're looking at going to Albufeira, Portugal next August to stay in a friends villa. I've had a quick look at flights and they are coming in at around £900 for the 4 of us.
Firstly, is this a good price? We're in Yorkshire, so want to fly from nearby airports like Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham etc.
Secondly, When would be the best time to book the flights? Are they at a constant price or do they rise/fall at certain times?

Check with all carriers to find prices, generally the earlier you book flights, you get the best price, as prices usually get more expensive the closer to departure you get.0

You should buy your travel tickets 8-10 weeks before you supposed to departing to travel, it would be 30-40% less then the original price.0

I am sorry to disagree with those suggesting you wait to book flights for peak season tickets to Faro. You are travelling at peak season, need four tickets on the same flight and would like to fly from Leeds. With those sorts of requirements, I would suggest booking early rather than late, its a simple issue of demand and supply. Low cost carriers are not low cost if everyone wants to fly on them, £400 return on Easyjet for a one and a quarter hour flight to Geneva was not cheap when I needed to travel on a Saturday in March!
Once you book your flights, don't check prices again, there is nothing you can do later. If the fare seems reasonable, then book it and forget it0 -

Do you have any more information to support this?
I think I will just book the tickets when we book the villa. I want to be able to get on the flight I want (ie early out there, late coming back) and don't want to leave it too late and the flights be fully booked!
I suppose I don't mind paying £800 for the flights as the villa was so cheap, still works out cheaper than a package holiday. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0
