If using at the tops of staircases you need ones that bolt to the Walls (not pressure fitted). I only have a gate at the bottom of our stairs at the moment, and due to the width had to have one that bolts to the wall.
Checkout kiddicare for well priced gates.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Hi
We used one of these a few years back but I am horrified by the price tbh!! I am sure I paid around 50 quid for mine on kiddicare...might be worth a look on ebay...I really liked the fact it rolled away out of sight and it was very easy to use.

We have got Baby Dan ones top and bottom of the stairs. They are the No-Trip model that are wall mounted. There is also another Baby Dan design that adjusts for greater widths. Mothercare have got a "buy one get another half price" offer at the moment.

We have the ones mentioned by rjc73. They are brilliant, and are still in regular use when we have visitors with smaller children. However when we got them they were well under £100 each. It's amazing what 4 years and a redesign do to the price...The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

I always found the moveable "travel" gates to be the best and easiest to use. We've got this one:

Must object - our little one could push those over quite easily once he started cruising.
We used lindam stair gates - they've been very good0 -

Me too. They don't open for a start, so you have to take them out every time you want to go through them!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Well neither of our kids have ever got ours open - and it only takes a second for an adult to open it, so getting through has never been a problem.ringo_24601 wrote: »Must object - our little one could push those over quite easily once he started cruising.0 -

You can't open them. You have to take it out and then put it back. It has no door!
I borrowed one for a weekend before getting the proper ones. Absolute nightmare.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

We've got one of these as well. They do not open - they are a barrier not a gate. It is great for temporarily shutting off an area or shutting off somewhere that you do not need access to but want to keep baby out.0
