Tuesday 20th Sept - What Small DFW Things Will You Do Today?!

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free :money:
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:D
Morning all, hope no one minds me starting the thread!
Determined that today will be a better day than yesterday - power of positive thinking - please work!
Today I will:
Hope you all have lovely days - Candy - enjoy college tonight!

I know this sounds a little insignificant but yesterday I had to go into town to go to the bank. Instead of putting more than required into the parking meter, I just put in the minimum and quickly walked to the bank and back instead of checking out a few shops - saved time and pennies!0
-
Keentobedebtfree - whilst it may 'sound' insignificant, that's what this thread is all about - you weren't tempted to go to the shops, so those pennies saved on the parking may have potentially saved you pounds!House Fund: £2,800/£20,000 - 14%

- Enter competitions
- Check online banking
- Check out this week's flylady thread & do something
- [STRIKE]Holiday prep[/STRIKE] - we're sharing 1 suitcase this year in order to save a few pounds & I am a notorious overpacker...

Hello everyone!
Glad work wasn't too bad DNMs, and glad your hol was good. Don't envy you the packing for the move though ; will be worth it when you've got there and unpacked!- very long day at work today as there now and have long meeting that starts at 5:30pm
- take packed lunch and snack to stop tummy rumbles in aforementioned meeting
- need to check bank and move money (see next bullet point)
- bumped into DS#3s friend's mum who told me that in the summer hols my DS broke one of their windows! ( Not just any *!?!* window big bay edwardian type thing!). Offered to make contribution and made grovelling apology. Got home and bawled at DS; who fetched his money tin and tipped out £40 he'd saved from holiday money, pocket money from me and one off gift from aunt. Friend had told him it cost £125 just to make temporary repair. Will need to make amends. ( What would you pay? All, some, nothing? Gaggle of boys playing football and happended to be my DS that kicked it at window , of course!) DS banned from anything that beeps, not so much for the window but for not telling me!
- Usual small things but really must do some work now!
Getting there...slowly!
GC : must do better
NSD: very rare
No matter how slow I go I am lapping everyone on the couch.0 -
Thanks for the lovely welcome! I'm inspired!
Today I will:
1. Cut my son's fringe instead of taking him for his £15 haircut
2. Check bank Done
3. Make some biscuits - none in the cupboard either but lots of flour to use up! Made flapjacks - packed lunch treats sorted for Friday
4. Tackle my CV for application to Lionbridge
5. Go and earn some spud shillings Done
6. Prepare my cards to sell
In addition to the above, I have just:
7. Signed up with two survey companies and already have a combined credit of £3.55
8. Visited the What's the Cost website and faced up to the result:o
9. Closed a credit card I had paid off and they have transferred the £39.13 I unknowingly had in credit to my bank account :j
Have a lovely day!

Morning Gang,
Thanks to KJP for starting the thread, thanks for the good luck – I’m getting nervous of going but will be fine once I am there!
Hope everyone else is good – hugs to those that need them
Off to college tonight, for the first lesson of my AAT level 2 (which is the basic level) – I qualified as a book keeper about 2 years ago, but the criteria has changed, so I need to do level 2 before proceeding up to level 3.
Today and yesterday I have/will:
• Checked online banking – refund has been paid back into my account
• Need to phone bookstore customer services to cancel the last remaining book on order
• Meals from storecupboard
• LSD – possibly a drink at college tonight (or a refillable bottle of water from home)
• Read freebie paper on the train
• Used railpass to get to work
• Checked quidco – car insurance is waiting to be paid to me
• Read newspapers online
• Reading a library book when I have spare time
• Need to charge up mobile at work
• Take vits and meds to control hormones
• Update food diary
• Drink plenty of water
• Need to keep an eye out for MS jobs and surveys
• Catch up on this thread from the weekend
• Need to make a list of the things I need to grab when I get home (I will have about 5 minutes to get everything so I will feel like I’m on challenge Anneka)
• I must make more of an effort in general – with life, work, my image etc
Think that is about all, have a great day and sparkle!

Hello again! :j
I've taken a massive break from doing this, and although I'm actually debt free now :T (thank you thank you thank you all, couldn't have done it without you, fact!) could I still come and play with you guys? The DFW board is by far the nicest of all, was going to go to the savings bit but I've read some really mean posts  folk here seem so much more down to earth.
I'm in the process of applying for a mortgage and hoping so much that my pretty rubbish history of credit use doesn't go against me...will keep you posted. Anyway, house buying is enough of an incentive to be good with money and try not to spend unnecessarily so I need to stay on the straight and narrow! :j
Today I will...
- [STRIKE]check my bank[/STRIKE] (got so much better at doing this since joining in here :T, now I even make 'accounts' every month and account for all the money going out, feels a bit nerdy making my spreadsheets and graphs but it makes me look at what I've spent and face it if I've bought things I didn't need to buy) going to be tiiiiight until the end of the month, got to stay out of that overdraft!
- [STRIKE]need to buy shampoo and conditioner[/STRIKE] (no I can't go without conditioner, my hair is like a lions mane without it!) so will get it for £1 on the way to work (previous habit of expensive brand-y shampoo broken long ago, again thanks to DFW-ers! :money:) even better than £1 a bottle, used the 3 for 2 offer on the cheapest ones I could find and got 2 conditioners and a shampoo for £1.70!
- [STRIKE]keep adding to my christmas pressie list and come up with budget friendly hamper ideas[/STRIKE] (and make a plan for putting a bit aside to pay for it all!). Starting early I know, but I know some people on here start on boxing day  yikes!
- [STRIKE]Charge phone and laptop at work[/STRIKE]
- [STRIKE]Stick to meal plan this evening so no need for extra grocery spendy[/STRIKE]
- Go to the gym and [STRIKE]do housework[/STRIKE] when I get back from work to keep me out of trouble!
Have a lovely day everyone, it's nice to be back!
