so how does aisle 59 look like.
serious note, so glad finally you got what you obviously needed, stupid that it has had to take this long..
enjoy the freedom, wrap up warm its getting colder
Well it has a lot of worldwide products. Asian foods, Chinese, Caribbean, Greek and even Japanese.
Once I worked out how not to run someone over I loved it. The ability to get out was great. I could not for the life of manage to propel it, but give it time.
I wish I had it a year or two ago.0 -
Brassed off, propelling is more difficult than it looks. practice in a long straight stretch, i was using the corridor yesterday in anticipation of today (didn't want to take a hospital chair out so mum got me a red cross one). Once you get the hang of it you're off, best bit is you can aim towards rude idiots and they apologise to you for bumps! (!!!!!! trying to smoke in a hospital !!!!!!!)0

So glad to hear you now have the correct wheelchair :j
I'm glad your MP was supportive and proactive. It is amazing how quick NHS/PCT works when Mp's get involved!!
Enjoy your new found freedom. I'm sure with practice you will be racing down aisle 59.0 -
i've tried self propel omg it hurts so much, my upper body strengh is not enough to be solo with mine.
But the freedom that a wheelchair gives someone is like winning the lottery, well it was for me.
cooped up in a flat with no safe means out for 9 months, was driving me stir crazy, having to wait for others to be available for me.
now when i have to use that chair indoors i have a nice long corridor i can bump off the walls
Brassedoff today the aisle of world products tomorrow the world0 -
Mupette I found I could gain momentum by swaying forward a bit. Back was killing me yesterday though. I'm being assessed for one of these bad boys before I get out (nerve damage from collapsing lol, hopefully temporary), hope they recommend self propelled.0

What a carry on!
You couldnt make it up!
Try and take it easy till you get used to the propelling motion by just doing a little bit at a time or you might hurt yourself and that wouldnt be a good thing when you have just found your wheels.
I can remember when I got my first proper wheelchair (not the first two wheelchair services gave me but number three onwards) and the pleasure of going out with my kids without always plotting the way via anywhere possible to sit every 10 meters, it hurt all the more though when I lost the ability to wheel though before I got my second powerchair (number one was a mistake)0 -
Hello
I know these thinhgs happen. In your case I am sorry for your great loss. Is it against board rules to ask if anyone knows or can recommend a firm.I would also still know where I stand on the wheelchair?Amazing for
everyone.
Not got a clue what you are on about. I can only assume a post has been deleted.
GlasweJen, I have tried to self propel, but the pain in my lower back shoots right up to behind my lungs. I have spoken to Wheelchair services and they have told me I not supposed to as the inserts in the back can move. They have booked me in next week so I can have a lesson on what I can do. The lady said I can move it with my arms, but I should not as a rule go any further than a foot or two. Wish they had told me that before.
As for when I did try to self propel, wow it is harder than you think. Respect goes out to all the self propel brigade from this point onwards.
I was also told when I go into hospital to take a bike lock and lock it up. Funny or what!0 -
I have been in hospital as a out and in patient in both manual and powerchairs but Ive never had to lock them up!
You're better off insuring them though, as a valuble that you take out of the house on your home insurance is the cheapest way or with a insurer who covers mobility aids (and one that understands them, mine are with a specialist insurer now Chartwell)Brassedoff wrote: »Not got a clue what you are on about.
