Low usage broadband capped- how do u not go over?

Going to pay for broadband in my MILs house for my son to use when hes there.
To be honest, she doesnt use the phone much so was going to switch her phone to primus which is cheaper than BT. Broadband is 2.99 on top.
But its capped at 20Gb.
He'll only be there once in a while but how can I be sure he doesnt go over?
