I would swap the f/f and the tall larder cupboard over, so the view line into the kitchen looks more streamlined.

  • Personally I would be tempted to take out the bit of wall between the two rooms if it is not supporting!!! Sorry, I don't know if you are just starting the build or doing up an old house, but I would be tempted to make the rooms more as one. I would do the following - move larder cupboard next to f/f and either put the hob/oven by the door or to the left of the room. Open up the wall between the two rooms so you have a 'bar' feel and put sink in there. We have done this recently and it is brilliant being able to access it from both sides. Plus you can still do your washiing up (Filling dishwasher) facing the window! We got around having fewer wall cupboards with a nice 'dresser' for the cutlery crockery, which you could place in your dining room.
It looks like a good plan you have if you can't change the wall, but personally I would put big cupboard near f/f to keep the lines neater. We have sooden work tops and so far no problems - my borther has had beech ones for 5 years and no problems there either!
    Have fun.

Thank you again to Meepster for making these changes!

We had a good talk last night and decided that we could go without the larder cupboard. Our main reasoning for one was we have always had one. But looking at this design we have also never had as much cupboard space. So we think we could fill all out nice new cupboards with the food instead :P

With reference to the wooden tops and butler sinks this is something we both really want so we’re going to keep looking at them, but thank you for the feedback 

Hi sugarwalsh, it is supporting! That whole section will be an extension and we need the wall to hold the back of the house up!

It looks great without the larder. I loved the idea of one for our kitchen too, but soon realised it would look too bulky. More cupboards = more stuff if you ask me!

I think it looks fab now, much better without the larder and you get much more worksurface.

I'd also make sure that the big bottom corner cupboard between the fridge and sink is a single unit like the one below, we have 2 single cupboards in the corner of our kitchen and you can't get to the stuff in the back of the corner which is a real waste of space (I didn't design it !)

One of the corners is a 935mm corner, the other is a 1000mm straight corner (only way it would all fit) but a magic corner, or Le Mans corner solution can be used...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • Looks great to me!! Hoping Meepster can work his/her magic on my kitchen plan too!;)
  • Perhaps we should start a Meepster fan club!! I see he has worked his magic again. second design looks great and I bet will make kitchen much brighter than the first one. I think that larder cupboard would have dominated the whole space.
Hope all goes well for you :)

Meepster prefers to stay in the shadows, not in the limelight...

Quite possibly, once I've done the other three I'm working on...
