Ikea Delivery Vent, so cross!

On 14/9 we put in a delivery for just over 2k worth of furniture, now at Ikea that goes a long way and we're virtually funushing our new house from scratch so 80% of the contents of out new house are arriving in a truck from Ikea. Fine.
Confirmation email arrived minutes after we'd completed our online shop stating that the estimated delivery would be on 23/9, fantastic we thought as we're moving in properly on 24/9 so the furniture would be in and we'd just have to move in after it. Fine.
The email said that within 72 hours of the order on 14/9 we'd get an email confirmation of the delivery date. This arrived this morning 19/9 significantly after the 72 hour period. The email stated that our delivery date would be 8/10. Whoa there, that's very different to the 23/9.
So I got on the phone after refreshing myself on the terms and conditions. It was an 0894 number to start (and I was on for 17 minutes). Spoke to an unhelpful chap who told me that the t&c on the website said that delivery would be within 14 days of the estimated date on the confirmation email, so I quoted the t&c and he didn't have an answer and kept on saying that there was nothing he could do as it says in the t&c blah blah, anyway as the delivery date was outside of the 14 days after the estimated date they are going to see about moving the delivery to within the 14 days after the estimated date.
Who does business like this? If they'd have just said from the start that it would be weeks away we'd have lived with it but messing people around with dates and t&c which don't exist isn't on.
I'm really cross with Ikea, really cross. I don't mind wiaitng for stuff to be delivered it's the messing about with dates grrrrr.
I don't even feel better now for ranting!

Ikea prices are low mainly because they skimp on things like delivery and customer service."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I had similar issues with only a few hundred pound of stuff. The date changed 3 times before finally getting my items. I dont have a problem with waiting 4 weeks for my table and chairs but I want to know about it beforehand - I got rid of the old set 3 days before my delivery that didn't happen and ended up 10 days with nothing. Just give me the right information in the first place - its the least I expect with their delivery charges too.0

A few years ago, I bought about £1000 worth of wardrobes from IKEA (which turned out to be worth the money, they helped sell the house for full asking price a year ago!) and paid to have them delivered. They arrived on the date specified, but the delivery staff took one look at my stairs and said "they won't fit up there" - these were still flatpacked, not assembled. I said "well, do you want to give it a go before you say that "nope, they won't fit" was the answer. All the while we were having this discussion, the other bloke on the van was unloading everything and leaving it by the front door. When I said to the guy "what do you expect me to do with all this stuff?" he just shrugged and said "take everything out of the boxes and take it up bit by bit. Did I mention it was raining at that point?
I tried to get him to take them back but he said "not our responsibility, they're delivered now" and left.
Fortunately, I had workies in fitting a new bothroom. They saw all this happening and said "don't worry, we'll shift them" (I reckon I could have probably just about done it myself) and did so in about 2 minutes.0 -

Just for counter-balance (not that I'm trying to say 'Ikea is brilliant!') I had a sofa and chair delivered a while ago by some guys from Ikea. They didn't fit through my incredibly narrow door. So these guys got their screwdriver, took my front door off, brought the stuff indoors, then rehung my door for me. They were in no way obliged to do this - the door was my problem, not theirs.
I guess it just depends who you get..."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
My sofa delivery was problematic too and the ikea guys worked really hard to fit it in for me (taking sofa apart and door off!)0

I doubt the above is down the Ikea customer service or policy.
It's just that some people who do their jobs actually enjoy doing them and will go that extra mile to feel good.
Or the above delivery guys just didn't want to go home to the misses. *shrug*0 -
Yes, we had Ikea dismantle a door to get our sofa in. Did a lovely job, no damage. Currys turned up 40 minutes later with the fridge freezer, also didn't fit - they also took the door off and rehung it! Day after the new mattress arrived, fortunately we managed to squash it through, but the bloke did offer to take the door off...0

Oh dear Ikea drive me mad!! I too placed an order for around the same amout, to be told my 2 week delivery date. 3 days before they called and said the bed we ordered was not available - and in fact was no where in the country.
Investigating myself the online stock checker said it was available at 3 stores in London, im on the Surrey commuter belt, so pretty close.
However, they were having none of it and said they will have to order my bed all the way from Stockholm putting another 14 days on top. So now, I have TWO deliveries meaning TWO days off work.
The customer service are idiots, British, but idiots all the same.0
