I'm going to stand up for BHS....I think that actually they do a pretty good range in both bridal and bridesmaids...
They are really good value for little ones and in honesty the adults are not bad either...the sizes do tend to run on the small side so it really is best to get everyone to try them on as the label is sometimes a bit deceiving....but all in all they ar'nt that bad...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
I once wore a BHS bridesmaid dress (admittedly it was 8 years ago) and ti was lovely. It fitted pretty well - it only needed taking up at the hem because I am short. It survived the day admirably. Had I ever had occasion to wear a floor length evening gown I could happily have worn it again. My only slight complaint was the matching shoes were horrible, but the dress was long so I didn't really mind.
I agree about the price hikes when you put the word 'bridesmaid' in front of 'dress'. There are loads of nice evening gowns and prom dresses about that are more reasonably priced. Have you considered more unusual places like Vivien's of Holloway for example?
Good luck with the search!0 -

I got mine from debenhams debut range. They do lovely stuff. I have brought all my semi formal/ cocktail dresses from debenhams thinking about it... Cost £75 each in the recent autumn week sale, and they are full length gowns. + got them through a cash back site tracking at 4%- every little helps!:T0

Thats a good point about getting something fairly formal/bridesmaid like.
Wow sounds like you had a bargain there with your bhs dresses.0 -

I once did that! Who'd a thought someone would put their BMs in black dresses from H&M. Yeah, not me. I think I (as the phoney BM) was far more embarrassed than the bride or the actual BMs. If yuo do go off the peg it's worth letting people know, even if just the colour or shop to avoid...

I think the bridesmaid dresses in BHS are lovely and good quality. They are just like the more expensive ones in bridal shops but at least £100 cheaper! Only word of warning is they do seem to come up small and also not every dress is in the same material in different colours e.g. satin dresses in one colour might be taffeta in another colour but exactly the same style. You def need to go and see them for that reason.
I'm getting my dresses from http://www.sexyher.co.uk which although sounds dodgy has a warehouse shop in Croydon and sells really good quality dresses made in China. They are much cheaper but good quality fabric and fully lined dresses. You can have them made to measure in practically any colour for about £85. It's definitely worth making an appointment to go and have a look before making any decisions.0
