  • The family would probably be using the money to try and afford a headstone, not a holiday! Funerals can be very expensive. Or they might be suddenly struggling because the deceased was the main earner. Just because someone has thought to have a whip round for them does not mean the family instigated it or is exploiting their loved one's death!

You never know with some people unfortunately, im just saying that if i didn't know the family then I wouldn't give them anything in a collection - I would only give money if it was going to a proper bonafied charity related to the person that died such as parkinsons, cancer-research, etc... If they are struggling because of the death of a main income earner there are plenty of state benefits which would help them out. I would expect anyone that is the main income earner enough to support a family to do the responsible thing and have a life insurance policy which would cover funeral costs - remember the main income earner would have also had assets transferred to their beneficies in order to try and help them out after they have gone.
  • Of course the OP is forgetting that for many who go to Bingo - especially the old fashioned small clubs - its almost a home from home with the regulars looking out for each other.

In the club that I know of its not uncommon for members of staff to go to funerals of deceased members as the lines between staff and customers become blurred.

I'd be tempted to ask who died, if a name wasn't mentioned when asking for donations. In fact I'd be making it my mission to find out lol. I don't see what reason they'd have to omit the name, especially if it was a regular who a lot of people might have known. I'd also ask if the collection for each Saturday was for the same person.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

    I don't

It is just that the caller assumes that eveyone knows the tragically dead person.

I go to the bingo to try to win some money not give it to the relatives of some drug addict for all I know.

Wow! Talk about assumptions. If you don't want to give money, don't. I personally think it's lovely to have a bit of a whip-round; show's real community spirit. Let's hope not everyone is as money-obsessed and churlish as you.
