    do you get tax credits?

  • Hi yes i get working tax credit and child tax credit but the child tax will also stop in march and there are no jobs for youngsters here!

you will still get child tax credit for the ones at school and in college, its just the 20 year old that you wont get it for

she was an adult 2 years ago and whilst its difficult she needs to get a saturday job, car cleaning, baby sitting, dog walking, pet sitting, paper round whatever so that she has some money coming in. do any of the kids work in this way or have they never earnt any money?

if not, they will find it very difficult to adjust to the world of work once they finish education, not to mention will run up more student debt than they other wise would if they had a part time job through university.

your income is very low so you should be getting maximum WTC anyway. do you have to pay rent and ctax? if so presumably you are claiming for hb/ctb? if so, remember that your daughter will be a non dependent and they will make deductions for her although it will be the minimum deductions. she probably wont count for ctax as she is a student so you shouldnt have any problems there, you should be receiving 25% discount and then any benefits payable under ctb
  • Hi yes they have all had saturday jobs but with the current climate there the first to get rid of they did paper rounds for years very hard working children just no jobs at the moment, i have a mortgage but just seems unfair that i cant get anything while shes still in full time education and the csa are useless!

Can you get a job paying more or upping your hours.

Get the children to apply to McDonalds, cafe's, restaurants, etc for Saturday/evening work to help out with the household expenses
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

good for them. why didnt they keep their paper rounds?

so rent isnt a problem, have you minimised the mortage, new rate, interest only (not always a good thing but desparate times and all that), over a longer term?

are you getting the correct council tax discounts and benefits?

to be honest is not 'unfair' just difficult. she is not a child, she has made a choice to do further study rather than enter the world of work (as best she could), so it is her responsiblity. she will get a loan and some grant due to your low income. she will need to get a job to fill in the gaps, theres no choice. her course is unlikely to be very intensive, so she could work a couple of days a week, maybe in several different jobs, or as i say, ask around to see if people require her services

When does your eldest finish college?
Put your details into the turn2us benefits calculator to see what you can claim. Is it possible for you to increase your hours?

    http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx

If you're currently earning the National Minimum Wage of £5.93 you will be getting a payrise of 15pence an hour on the 1st October

    Really?!

I would suggest looking at work in the care industry. This is a high tunrover job and most agencies are constanly recruiting, could be restricted with no car but most agencies take on walkers. Also very few qualifications need as most is done in house.

In theory most sudents leave college at 18/19 into further education or workplace, this is why ema stops then.

The OP won't get it for the son at university either.
