Welsh Water increased DD payments

I am on a metered water supply, have been for 20 odd years and have more or less consumed the same amount of water on each bill and have only been paying about £10 a month by DD. My last bill received a few days ago tells me that they are increasing the DD to £19.00 per month which is almost 100% higher! I have checked the unit cost on the last two bills and they are exactly the same. Is it just a way to extra money in their coffers? I have queried it with them, and if I don't get a satisfactory reply, I will stop my DD and pay the bills as and when I get them.

  • I don't know Hansi, we have a Wwlsh Water payment card and we pay some £52 a month on to it, they kept increasing our direct debit until it was nearly £60 a month, we then said enough was enough, asked them for a list of their standard charges for the year, then backed out on giving us this but instead gave us the option to pay via a payment book or card, both can be used at most PayPoint outlets.

Have a look at the link below:

    http://www.dwrcymru.com/English/library/publications/Your%20Metered%20Supply/english.pdf

It tells you that your measured water charge has increased from 109.61p per cubic metre to 113.93p. Your measured sewerage charge has increased from 131.92p to 133.06p. Your water standing charge has increased from £26 to £27 and your sewerage standing charge has increased from £30 to £50.

This could account for the increase.

Thank you very much for that. It's more than Welsh Water told me!
