This is all hypothetical. The OP doesn't even have a job at the moment, let alone his own house and mortgage!

See his other threads on the Benefits and Work board. He is a troll!

Maybe not so much of a troll, more a dreamer with a millionaire's wants and a low earner's lifestyle.

The island I am speaking of is called boracay

Boracay is far from being the main island! It is highly developed as a tourist resort, and has prices appropriate for wealthy visitors from developed countries. A year on Boracay would cost more than five thousand pounds -- more like fifty thousand!

    Spot on.
If the OP is not a troll, he is in cloud cuckoo land or he's been seduced by tales of how beautiful a country it is from his work colleague.
Stayed a week in Boracay a few years ago. 5 star hotel for under £100 a night. Bargain, even with the cost of the flights there from Manila. Not sure what you could do on £5K a year though.

    And the Loans board
This is the last time I am going to post this, can someone please help me it is quite urgent need it by november 1st.

I am retaking GCSE's through ICS (night school is out of the question). and 3 courses will cost basically £960. Does anyone know where I can get a 1k loan from?

Also I would rather avoid OD's and credit cards as although I will be earning over 10k per annum (hopefully) I wont have enough payslips to prove this by the time I need the loan

One question. have you ever been to the phillipines? if not I suggest you have a trip there first.
I presently live in Thailand and I certainly cant live on 1k a month and i certainly would be out of there tomorrow if I had the chance. You will always be the outsider easy prey for ripping off.

I was only there 3 weeks and took ill my medical bills were astronomical. Luckily my hubby has health insurance through his company. Medicines and even doctor visits cost an arm and a leg. You will even get charged for a plaster and because you are a westerner the price will double compared to a local. My tablets alone cost £200 per month

Housing will be the pits and sanitary conditions the same. I know a friend who has a room only and he is £400 per month and has no cooking facilities. Has to eat out every day.

Then you will have visa runs which will cost you. Girls who will rip you off. If anything happens they will take the word of the native over you. The list could go on and on

Personally I think you will never get enough rental income and extra to cover your needs.

Sorry but this is only going to be a pipe dream. Get youself over for a holiday and forget the rest.

Nico, you are wise. I should say that if anyone visits Thailand (and to a lesser extent the Philippines) for a short time they think they have arrived in paradise. There are wonderful things about both countries, most of which become obvious in the first few days. There are also difficulties, which generally take a little longer to become apparent.

In other words, someone who visits for a short time might become even more determined to move there, yet would be totally unprepared for the reality of the problems they would face. Listening to expatriates would obviously be wise, but most new arrivals know what they see and feel, and so are convinced that they know better.

I'm sorry that it is not working out for you. Perhaps part of the reason for your high medical bills is that insurance is paying. It is usually possible to reduce the costs of medicines (sometimes to one tenth of the price first asked) by shopping around a little. The hospitals popular with foreigners sell pills for vastly more than the prices in nearby pharmacies.

In the Philippines, I met many doctors and nurses who were very serious about helping their patients: in some cases they refused any payment for treating me, and at other times their charges were very reasonable (although I was covered by medical insurance). However, there is no way round the cost of medicines, apart from avoiding the more extreme rip-offs.
  • I have just spoken to one of my friends (she is from the phillapenes) and she told me how cheap it is to live out there. I have also seen the photo's and it is beutiful the place I want to live in a couple of years.

I am currently saving for my own house, and my plan is this.

When I buy my house (get my mortgage) I want to beable to move over their and rent my property out. So I have two questions.

    1) Would I still beable to pay the mortgage if I lived abroad (I would have 1 years mortgage payments saved in a current account for this)

    2) I would want to rent my house out, how do I get the rent paid to me in a foreign bank account, or would I have to keep it in an english one then transfer.

Why bother saddling yourself with the hassle of having to keep a long-distance eye on a property in the UK.
It's still going to be there in a couple of years time and could well be cheaper.
Head of to the Far East, get it out of your system and then return to normality.
My fear is that someone who doesn't understand the concept of either internet banking or BTL mortgages probably also doesn't have much of a clue about living abroad.
    Good luck.
