Well presuming that the house hasn't burnt down by now then the FB is no longer necessary.

    Cheers

Bet the chimney hasn't been swept or tested either. Sily people but probably just thought they could light a fire willy nilly.

To be fair- if I was renting and moved into a house with a fire I would assume that it was safe to use! Obviously it isn't, but I think the tenants could be quite unaware of how dangerous is potentially is. Hope the OP sorted it.

These threads do make me laugh. My neigbour is doing something that upsets me what shoudl I do? Call the emergency services, perhaps the army? Call the council? Call their landloard? Write them a letter? Start legal action?

I know people can be dificult but the first port of call should always be to talk to them. This is a dangerous situation and you should have knocked on their door as soon as the smoke started coming in. If they won't answer or refuse to stop the fire then start looking at your options!

As above most fo the time people don't even realise that they are causing a problem! It isn't like they were doing anything that unusual! Plus they won't care as the landlord will have to sort it out not them!
  • Quick update. Thank you for all the helpful replies, thankfully we did not die and the matter is being sorted between the rental agent and the neighbours landlord.

I did not post on here to ask what we could do about being smoked out, I was asking opinions on the cause of it. Obviously the first thing we did was to hammer on their door but they were actually out most of the day.
On advice from the rental people I did call the Fire Brigade (not 999 but the helpline through to my local station) who advised me to keep house well ventilated and to let my neighbours know not to light any more fires until its sorted.

I spoke to my neighbours yesterday and told her to contact her landlord asap.

Glad you are getting it sorted. Didn't mean to have a pop it just sounded from your original post that your first port of call was to e-mail your landlord and that your neigbours were doing this because they aren't very nice! You wouldn't belive the number of posts where people are asking advice on who they should report their neigbours to for various things and 90% of the time they haven't even told their neighbours of the issue!

It just makes me sad that people can't comunicate!
