Are polished porcelain floor tiles dangerous?

I like the idea of polished porcelain floor tiles in the kitchen and bathroom but I am a bit concerned about slipping. Does anyone find these too slippy? I guess they would be on a par with granite tiles too, and smooth quartz ones, so if you have those, please let me know what you think.

They will not be that slippy normally, however when wet they are lethal. It's the little spill of something that you have not noticed that is especially lethal !0

I have porcelain tiles in the kitchen and don't have any problems with them. Obviously if you spill something it would be a good idea to clear it up as that would be slippy but everyday its fine.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

What do you mean by Polished Porcelain tiles ? Porcelain floor tiles have a matted finish which renders them suitable for use in wet areas. Any attempt to apply a shiny finish onto the tile would make them deadlyYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

We have ceramic tiles in kitchen and conservatory and 'passage way'. They are all different and have different properties when wet - the conservatory ones are worse, but the passageway ones have a slight texture and are better. They were in the house when we moved in and are incredibly hard wearing, but I have two dogs, and as the dogs get older they find it harder to walk on the tile surfaces. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Porc tiles can be polished or honed.

Id go as far as to put polished tiles in the kitchen but not the bathroom.
Ive come close to having a nasty slip a few times when getting out of my bath and I have textured tiles, I wouldnt risk it, even with a bath mat0 -

They can be matt, satin or polished i.e. smooth.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
The other downside of polished products is their nature of showing every mark, crumb and scuff.
Honed is more practical, it stays looking better longer and has a higher degree of slip resistance.
You can also find riven porcelain which is kind of a slate replica without the maintainance - quite a good product for bathroom floors.0 -
i think most of the answers above cover your question, one thing to add is they can also be fun if your only wearing socks...
if you have kids, probably worth staying away. you can get a gloss finish with a texture that will improve things a lot.
watching the dog trying to run on these can be fun though....0 -
Thanks for all of the replies. I think I will fine slighty less shiney ones for the bathroom, and perhaps for the kitchen too.i think most of the answers above cover your question, one thing to add is they can also be fun if your only wearing socks...

I once surprised a mouse walking across a smooth floor. It hurtled off, and when it reached the end of the room, it tried to turn and failed, and you could see it losing control of its backside as it spun around. Highly amusing at the time.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
