Hi
I am thinking of getting a pay as you go dongel. Hopefully to save abit of cash! Has anyone any experience of using these? Are they any good or just a waste of time/money.
I mostly use the pc maybe a hour or two a day for e mail and surfing the web. Don't watch tv or download films, couple of videos a month on u tube.
I dont see the point in paying for a phone line when I dont use it!
Any recommendations or advice? #
Thanks

For mobile broadband:
Go to Site Finder, click on the map and pop the relevant postcode in the box.
A map should appear, hopefully with some blue triangles.
You'll need to click on each of the blue triangles in turn, reading the details.
What you are looking for are UMTS masts under 'type of transmission' within 500 metres of the place of intended usage and the name of the operator.
Once you have ascertained the best network for your location, we can search for the best deal within that network.0 -
I have used nothing but prepaid Three Network mobile BB for 3 years now, and am very satisfied with it. I don't play games or download music or films, and use around 2gb per month.
I think that Three have the best coverage now.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

an older E585 mifi, the new E586 cant be unlocked yet, with a giffgaff sim
with one of their goody bags added.. mean you can connect multiple devices.
if you dont eed to connect multiple devices then an unlocked dongle would
do the trick.
Using the giffgaff sim will give you 'unlimited' web for a tenner a month.
your not allowed to do it, but plenty do

Forget about the GiffGaff SIM unless you have an O2 UMTS/2100MHz mast close to you.
Are you sure that you have only Orange UMTS/2100MHz masts close to you?
They don't really offer the best value. Look here. Though of course if you happen to have an Orange phone/SIM, you can earn a £5 per month discount.
Perhaps your best bet is to get an 'unlocked' modem. That way you can try out different network SIMs for speed and coverage. Though Orange data SIMs aren't easy to find on their own.0 -
I have put in the town instead of the post code and alot more have shown up. There is 3 , o2 and vodafone. Thanks for your help.
Do you think 3 would be the best one?0 -

The post code is more apt. If I put London in, a lot more would show up for me too.

You could always use that and if positive, order online from 3 UK. That way you should be covered by DSR if it doesn't work on 3G, even after checking coverage.
Though I'm sure 3 will try to make it difficult to return it with nonsense about 'unopened' packaging.

lol ok they are the providers that showed up that are well within the 500 m that Wannie recommmended. I put the town which is about 3 miles to the next town! Not as large as London!
Good idea about the coverage though. thanks0 -
If you go with 3...If you don't use more than 1GB per month, consider these SIMs to replace the original when it's data limit is reached.
