Bit of a complicated story here!
My boyfriend bought a pre-owned xbox in june and bought an extended warrenty, which would last for 2 years and cover accidental damage, it cost £90 for the xbox and £25 for warrenty. About 4 weeks ago the games started freezing and the bit where the disk goes in wouldnt open. We were told we could only swap it for the same model and we would be called when one was in stock. 3 weeks later and still no xbox so i went to ask about trading it in and paying extra for an upgraded model. they said it was fine but i would have to pay the extra £15 and another £25 if i wanted another warrenty because the original one would be of no use anymore. I got the bus home collected the xbox and took it back, exchanged it and got the bus back home. Once my boyfriend set it all up (takes ages he isnt very technical!) we quickly played it to check it was working. 2 hours later we switched it back on only to find it has the "red ring of death" which is an error message telling us that it's compleatly broken and we cant use it anymore.
Im taking it back on monday but wondered what im entitled to get? I think the boyfriend is hoping that he can get all our money back (apart from the original warrenty we bought because according to terms and conditions we cant claim it back)
Altogether it has cost us £155 for a £90 xbox which is a lot of money to us. Thanks for any help you can give us!

Does your receipt tell you what the store's policy on refunds is? If they offer refunds for items returned within 28 days of purchase then, as long as you have your receipt i'd have thought you would get a refund. Depends on their policy i guess and what it says on the warranty. Can you check out the store's policy online?0

To clarify..
the one that was faulty and under warranty, they offered a replacement and said for x amount they would put you in a better position than they had to?
If so you you have NOT paid £155 for a £90 XBOX, how have paid extra to upgrade and be put in a better position. Legally all they had to do was refund a portion of your money, which since you originally paid £90 and had 2 years of use, a fair proportion would be between £35-£45. I'm surprised they didn't just do this.
Nontheless, they have exchanged it for you and you have a warranty so they will likely repair or replace it under that.
Although you paid for betterment, you purchase the goods 2 years ago so although you can ask for a refund, they are under no obligation to do so.
If though, I misunderstand and they reimbursed you a fair portion of the cost and then you used that to purchase a new XBOX (ie a completely new ales contract) you can reject it for a full refund within reasonable time - so if this is the case don't hang around and go straight back. However, i'm not sure that is the case here.0 -
It was a pre-owned box bought in June 2011 which started to fail after about 6 weeks. ( That's how I read it).0

sorry its taken so long to get back in touch but also had laptop troubles this month ;(
I took the second xbox back and got my full £155 back which was good but got no word of apology but was told they check all games consoles before they will take them. I really dont think they care because im sure that the only xbox on the shelf was the one i had originally returned but I cant be sure. We wont be buying from them again in a hurry anyway after the poor customer service when I went back for the second time. They tried to tell me i would only get the £40 back because aparently thats all i had paid! took 10 mins and 3 members of staff to grasp that I wanted all my money back.
Managed to get a good deal on a brand new one from work which cost £165 so we will be calling an early christmas present for my boyfriend i think lol.0 -

Hmm, not sure that is true. They replaced the model under the original warranty so the warranty should still continue for the remainder of the 2 years. The fact it was upgraded is irrelevant IMHOOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Glad you got it sorted OP. Out of interest, where did you get the faulty one from? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

It's an extended warranty/insurance product though, they can put what terms they like in it. Argos policies are claim-once, end of policy, for example.0 -
game station. i did check the terms and conditions of the extended warenty and once you have had an exchange or refund then the warrenty is finished and you do need to take out a new one for a new console. But because the second xbox didnt even last a day they decided to refund us back the money for the warrenty. Its been an expensive refund because of the distance away we live I had to get a total of 4 buses to and from town to get this sorted. I think we will just avoid the place from now on. My boyfriends parents had similar troubles and had to exchange a brand new xbox and a game because neither would work.0
